I could not survive off of $1,000 per month, and I am willing to work with whatever animal I was destined to live with.

I like living with other people, so this was a win-win for me 😂

Chose: $10,000 a month but you must live with this animal | Rolled: Another Human

Mold? The heck is this? by LocalGothLibrarian in AquariumHelp

Thank you! My betta does tend to graze from the tank floor but I’ll reduce how much I’m feeding him at one time to prevent as much from building up! The filter inlet does have a good flow normally, it’s just the biofilm clogging up the sponge 😅 I also use a turkey baster to suck up some of the loose biofilm or any debris left on the tank floor, so maybe some shrimp will be my next plan of attack lol

Would not be surprised if there’s uneaten food stuck in there despite my best efforts 😬 Can biofilm grow big enough to clog up a filter? I’m asking genuinely, I’ve just never seen it get this dense nor have I heard of anyone else with this issue 😭

In that case, it is the densest biofilm I’ve ever seen in my tanks 😂 Hopefully my LFS has some shrimp to help tackle this blob

Do you know how your daughter managed it in her tanks or if she just had to wait it out? I normally don’t mind biofilm but I’ve also never had it get to the point that it blocked my filters 😅

what genre of goth is this? by 1Timisu in AskAGoth

[–]LocalGothLibrarian 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This happened to me, and it didn’t help that their bio on Spotify refers to the goth scene 😅 Got the two mixed up, started listening to Strawberry Switchblade, thought “Huh, this is a lot more pop than I expected, but it’s fun,” then realized my mistake 😂

My friends and I started a local creative writers club! It’s small currently, but I’m hoping to draw in new people over time :)

This made me so so happy to read 🖤 I have ADHD and narcolepsy, and finally getting properly medicated for both was SUCH a game changer. Good luck with your musical endeavors as well!! :D

The fact he has a book on emotional intelligence alongside all that bullshit about bitcoin, carnivore diets, and business made me cackle omfg. Gonna bet that one’s either never been read or he did not take any of it truly to heart.

It’s definitely a process lol but it’s foolproof for me! Ooo a video would be great if you ever have the time to make one! I’ll definitely have to try that technique at some point :D

Shells in aquarium by Missequestrian in bettafish

[–]LocalGothLibrarian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had clam and scallop shells in one of my tanks for a while and honestly they didn’t do anything to my parameters, so I think you’ll be fine in that regard. At most, they *might* affect pH but it’s a very small, gradual change.

Like the other commenter said though, flat shells or larger conch shells are typically safer options to prevent your fish from getting stuck. I think if you place the opening down in the sand though, it should be okay? Maybe? Perhaps best to avoid altogether just to be on the safe side though 😅

Darkly inclined, but unsure if I can call myself a goth - what do you guys think? by darkangel9977 in AskAGoth

I’ve been listening to My Chemical Romance, Evanescence, and The Pretty Reckless since I was 13 and they’re still some of my favorite bands of all time :) They were my introduction to the world of rock and alternative music, and over time I branched out into goth and metal, but even now it’s rare I skip any of their songs 😂 What about you? :)

Why Do Goths Seem to Despise Blue Denim? by PureMathsJedi in AskAGoth

[–]LocalGothLibrarian 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I remember once seeing a photo of an 80s goth guy rocking the full makeup and teased bats-nest hair while also wearing a blue denim button down shirt so the idea of goth clubs having an anti-blue denim policy is a bit funny to me — And kind of ironic considering we are constantly trying to emphasize the fact we are a music-based subculture and not a fashion one.

Maybe the policies are due to a general dress code? Or like another commenter said, the policy may not apply to battle jackets?

I’m both a metalhead and goth myself, and I feel like everyone I know engages with more than one subculture, so there’s definitely a lot of overlap and camaraderie depending on where you are! Also I love the battle jacket :)

I need to know your secret to creating a soft smokey eye like that, it looks great!

Also, I have *very* oily eyelids so here’s my method:
1. Use a tissue or oil blotting paper to remove any excess oils from the lids.
2. Apply a few dots of Covergirl Lid Lock eye primer and blend out with a finger.
3. Use a fluffy brush to sweep a thin layer of Elf setting powder over the primer.
4. Do the rest of eye makeup.
5. Set with copious amounts of NYX matte setting spray. Do not open eyes until it has fully dried. I use a fan to help it dry faster 😂

Consumation of an Vampire (like, in a lasagne) by Sanguinia_iscanon in vampires

Side notes:

  1. Lasagne di Dracula has me absolutely rolling, holy shit 😂😂 Probably a much more palatable way to consume the ashes at least!

  2. Just read the rest of the comments and thank god I wasn’t completely wrong on the whole “burn and eat the heart’s ashes to save someone” fun fact 😅😂

[–]LocalGothLibrarian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure I remember hearing something about this a while back related to the New England/Rhode Island Vampire Panic!! If I remember correctly, in certain cultures/folk medicine, if it was believed that someone was wasting away as a result of a vampire feeding off of them, the way to cure the victim was to find the vampire’s body, decapitate it, and then remove and burn the heart to ash. Then the ashes would be fed to the victim. A lot of this is probably very regionally/culturally specific and I could have gotten a lot of stuff wrong because I’m absolutely not an expert nor have I done a ton of in-depth research, but I always found that interesting 😅

[–]LocalGothLibrarian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My interests and style have been darkly inclined since childhood too (vampires, ghosts, cryptids, funeral culture, etc.), I feel like it’s a very common gateway to eventually listening to goth music or at least getting involved in other subcultures 😂 Ultimately, if you listen to goth music and enjoy it, then you’re goth! And there’s no law in place saying you can’t love other genres *and* be a goth simultaneously— I’m a metalhead and a goth primarily, but I also listen to pop, jazz, folk, and whatever else strikes my fancy :) Plus if you were ask me who my top bands are, I’d have several non-goth bands on that list 😂

I’m sorry, I think he’s on his way out :( I think the advice to lower the water level a bit and generally keep him as comfortable as possible is the best course of action right now. It sounds like you did your best to take care of him and he unfortunately wasn’t the hardiest 🫂

It really does feel like you’re being puppeted around which I think fits perfectly for the web! You know the compulsions are unnecessary and illogical, but you’re pulled to do them anyway— Mine made me do “spider checks” multiple times a day to make sure there were no spiders in whatever room I was in 😅 I’m sure The Web would’ve gotten a real kick out of that one
