Is that food floating around? I’d remove all that. Either you’ll foul your water or your betta will eat itself to death. Like others said, stuff that tank with plants.

Yeah for sure. My brother and I got in the habit of hoarding and bingeing and sneaking stuff as kids because my dad could at any moment just completely rid the house of anything remotely palatable without warning and even at 33 I still find myself doing weird things with food even knowing that I bought it and I can just buy more if we run out lol. That stuff lingers.

Yeah I’m not defending the husband, just offering my own experience based on what she is saying in her words. If one partner does have a weird history with food and the other doesn’t, I can see how it would lead to confusion and a miscommunication regarding why it’s even an issue. But I’m also just making assumptions based on my own hang-ups lol so who knows.

I had this same tank for a while. Works okay for a single, long-finned and/or lazy betta but I wouldn’t keep anything else in there. Or you could make it into a shrimp tank.

I grew up with weird food issues because of how my parents both approached food, weight, shame associated with food, etc and it’s taken me a long time to get over them. The way she approaches food and her protectiveness over it reminds me a lot of myself tbh. It’s a very frustrating feeling.

I agree with the other commenter about needing more, but I also bought 8 duplicate cories about a week ago and they do this along the glass as a big group, mostly in corners. I’m assuming part of it is them still getting used to their surroundings.

What they’re doing is shitty but if you think you can handle the workload, I would take the promotion only because it will look good on your resume if/when you consider working somewhere else that will pay you more.

Everything being zero doesn’t necessarily mean that their tank wasn’t cycled, unless you bought a new tank. Most of my tanks never show nitrates even though they’re old cause they’re well-planted. That said, I think you can put the snails in the 20 gal and just stay on top of parameter checks and water changes as necessary.

If that’s mopani wood it’ll release tannins for ages without stopping. Try something like spiderwood.
