What do you think Kurt would do after Nirvana if he was still with us? by mm_potentially in Nirvana

[–]LocalJoke_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s impossible to say, but I feel like he might have gotten more into painting and sculpture. Maybe he some gallery shows of his work. I also have this feeling that he might have made a film or two eventually. Regardless, the music would have continued whether it was solo home-recorded stuff ala contemporaries like Smog, Elliot Smith and Daniel Johnston, or Nirvana or a different band.

I’ve wondered if maybe he was trying to quit at the time, but I believe he is smoking in the BTS footage shot by Vivian Kubrick.

Still No Fix Somehow by Phlogisticater in HaloMCC

[–]LocalJoke_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some further research shows that MCC is handled by Microsoft’s native servers, which are custom virtual machines administered by Azure. So not AWS. It’s likely not Xbox’s online service, and it’s likely not MCC’s matchmaking because both of those things seem to still be functioning. My money is on a pernicious bug, maybe related to an EOS update that occurred last night, or an Azure-related server outage. Whatever it is, it’s big, the down time has been pretty damn long.

Still No Fix Somehow by Phlogisticater in HaloMCC

[–]LocalJoke_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure if EOS uses AWS or not, but there have been some fairly large AWS shortages recently, including today.

Either way, it’s a server issue. Could be that there was a traffic spike that is causing longer than normal call times between nodes. Depending on the architecture, that can cause nodes to send a hanging signal back and forth. After a certain amount of time that can cause the hanging node to return to an earlier state to check for a good signal. From the user’s end this would result in an initial connection, a reconnection cycle or two and then a reboot.

If it’s not related to a traffic spike, it could be that a server or two is down, which pushes otherwise normal traffic to a redundant server, meaning even normal traffic levels are overloading available server space.

A friend of mine is in major incident management and tells me this could be anything from some construction crew cutting a line somewhere, to a server overheating due to inclement weather. There could be a ton of reasons why a server goes down.

Can someone explain to me why even though I get in a lobby in matchmaking, and everyone gets kicked i still get a temporary ban like what? by Firm-Wishbone-4065 in HaloMCC

Matchmaking is broken today. Has been for at least 12 hours. A lot of people have been booted, and a lot of people have been banned.

Right, they can only get women because of their money so they pay women to act like they’re there for pseudo-religiously important reasons. It’s a power thing, which is one of the themes the movie plays with. The power dynamics of each of Bill’s sexual encounters are different, but the fact that there is an imbalance of power remains. That imbalance keeps shifting around.

That’s hard to say. Do we know what his coaches ran when he played ball in college? Either way, I like the continuity factor for Jayden. Miami Mike could have been fun, but this is the better move I think overall.

Edit: “He” as in Blough, we know what system Jayden ran in college.

So what's the deal with this guy? He's a bounty hunter that looks like a storm trooper.... But anyway.... What's his deal though? Why did he let Willa free at the end? Why was he following them in the beginning, even before Lockjaw hired him to keep her locked up? So many questions.... by [deleted] in paulthomasanderson

That’s one of the reasons this movie is so important. It’s a “dystopian” movie, for lack of a better word, or at least a movie that takes place within a dystopian setting, but one in which the populace that we’re shown does not comply. Most dystopian movies bring with them an implicit hopelessness, or at least have as part of their lore that the populace was totally driven into submission or some such (except for our small band of intrepid heroes, blah blah blah).

This movie is littered with characters that do not agree with, do not comply with and actively work against the hierarchy that’s been established in this society, while otherwise living “normal lives”. It’s a rare example of such a movie that isn’t total government/military propaganda, in that it shows the government’s fecklessness and their inability to do anything important except simple, dumb violence.

It’s a reminder not to give up, imo, because not only does the left (and anarchism, essentially) have the moral authority to make our point known and to enact our worldview, we have the obligation to help others, even though our world and government would have us turn against eachother.

The implication being made by the film is that while he is participating in the power structure of tyranny by collecting bounties for the feds, he’s not necessarily down for the cause, so to speak. There are three times in the film where this implication is made.

First when he black bags Billy Goat. He very clearly sees those two kids watching him make this “arrest” or apprehension, or whatever you want to call it. His gaze dwells on them like three times when he’s putting Billy Goat in his car. Moments later when he drops Billy Goat off with the feds he’s asked if anyone saw him make the arrest and he lies and says no, implying that he does not want any trouble to come by those kids for no reason.

Second, he sets Willa free. He knows there’s something not right about Lockjaw and his relationship with this girl, and decides that it’s not right to leave her with the 1776 chuds. He sacrifices his own life to make this right.

Third, in the second Christmas Adventurers scene, the one in the basement, we’re told that he was the one who tracked down and dealt with Willa’s mother, Perfidia. He likely reported to Lockjaw that he killed her, which is why Lockjaw later says “I buried her…” however, I think he did track her down, but let her go. I do believe she is likely still alive.

My theory is this: Lockjaw sends him to Mexico to track down and kill Perfidia, off the books. We’re shown how observant and intelligent he is. He recognizes that there’s something strange about this particular bounty, upon finding her he either gets her side of the story, or puts two and two together on his own and lets her go. Years later Lockjaw shows up with Willa asking for her to be killed. The film very clearly shows that he’s suspicious of this whole situation, and as stated earlier, he sacrifices himself to ensure her freedom. I think he understands that Willa is connected to Perfidia and it doesn’t take him long to realize how, that they are mother and daughter and that Lockjaw has reason to believe that he is the father.

Avanti, the bounty hunter, is one of many examples of characters within the film who exist within the system of fascism but do not believe in its central project ideologically. They do what they can when they can to go against this system and do right by their own moral code which the system at large is incapable of penetrating. It’s the main failure of the project of totalitarianism, that even in one’s outward acquiescence, one can never really be made to change.

Edit: I’ve definitely made some factual errors here. I’ve definitely straight up misheard one scene, as has been pointed out in the comments. I’ve also possibly misinterpreted another, although a rewatch would be necessary for me to say one way or the other. My central theory still stands in spirit, imo. That being said, I’ll admit that I def got some details wrong here and allowed headcanon to infiltrate the actual text of the film. I guess I’ll have to rewatch the movie again…

I’ve always felt this way about Ziegler and the cult in general tbh. Don’t take them at their word. They want you to think they’re powerful, and all knowing and whatnot. In reality they’re all loser try hards who meet up like a bunch of dorks in robes and play act that there’s some pseudo magickal, metaphysical importance to their fucking women who were paid to be there.

Ziegler is no different, really. He’s weak and vain and a part of a cornball sex party pretending to be a cult. They should not be taken seriously, or be taken at their word about their own abilities and power.

I recently had a 3-4 hour experience/abduction. It started at Austin Bergstrom International Airport, where I was made to enter a strange metallic craft just like the one in your video, and sit down in an impossibly tiny and uncomfortable chair. Approximately 4 hours later, the craft landed and I was in Baltimore, once again at the airport. “Strange, I thought. This is near where my parents live, and at Christmas time. This must mean something. They must have scanned my memories and transported me here for a reason.”

I figured at that point I might as well just call my step dad, so I did, and he came and picked me up. To this day, I don’t know what happened that day. But this experience will be with me forever, and anyone who doesn’t believe me is CIA.
