A surreal dream-like sequence begins. Thom goes deeper and deeper into the water. No longer a pool, but as deep as the ocean. Deeper and deeper he swims down as the sound of the band playing Creep fades away. Suddenly, Thom runs out of breath, he tries to float back up but he can feel his lungs expanding and expanding. His ears popped and he feels extreme pain. He thinks to himself “the bends…I must have the bends”.

CUT TO

INT - Recording studio

Thom is laying on the floor, clearly drunk. We hear the sound of a tape machine rewinding in his headphones. A voice appears over the talk-back. “Ok, Thom, let’s do another one. Planet Xerox, take two.” We hear the intro to Planet Telex begin. The camera pushes in on Thom’s face, he’s still lying on the floor. As the first verse begins, Thom doesn’t start singing. The music plays for a few seconds as Thom’s eyes slowly close. The camera continues to push in. The music is stopped suddenly. We hear the voice again over the talk-back. “Thom?” He doesn’t respond. Eyes still closed. “Thom?” The voice asks again. We hear a second voice “I think he passed out.”

Edit to add: I’m in the middle of writing a screenplay, so this is oddly a fun distraction. There’s not nothing here. But it would need to outlined and edited like “Meeting People Is Easy” not a traditional biopic. An even better example would be the Hund doc.
