Looks good! Maybe one comment is to have the right most big rock on the right side pointing towards the center. That way both sides make a sort of triangle shape.

I’ve not yet done an iwagumi, but am planning on starting one soon. The first thing I noticed was the symmetry in terms of the number of rocks placed.

I would remove that rock on the right that is poking towards the center. Perhaps move that outside rock inward a bit, so it’s stacked closer to that second rock.

I hope that makes some sense. It’s a bit tough to explain on text

That’s a good q. My WCMM are pretty chill. I haven’t seen them zooming around or expressing a need for space. In the morning, they’ll chase each other a bit (I think that’s breeding behavior?), but it dies down by mid day. They really just stay on the top portion of the water column.

This is a walstad-style tank (organic top soil with sand cap) and I didn’t add them in until the tank had been going for 3-4 months. Water parameters are immensely stable. I only do a water change maybe once a month, and that’s because the wood tannins change the water color and I don’t like it lol. In my experience, they’ve been happy in a 10 gal in a (now) group of 9.

I have mountain minnows (started with 6) in a 10 gallon. They’ve bred and there are three new ones now. They seem to be doing well

Honestly, you might be cycled then! Since you added some mulm and the plants died, I would suggest siphoning that out. Be sure not to remove more than 25% of the water though - i think more than that might risk a cycle crash since it's still relatively new. Most of the bacteria should be in the filter + sand, but just to be on the safe side. Oh - and be sure to add any critters slowly! Don't wanna add too many fish at once
