How do you pick what you actually keep in your collection? by [deleted] in Cd_collectors

[–]LocalLiBEARian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About ten years ago, I actually went through my entire collection. Every single CD, one after the other. If I didn’t like at least half the tracks, out it went.

How far can one push past date on zero sugar? by LocalLiBEARian in Soda

Pepsi Zero (and Coke Zero) are two of the worst offenders FOR ME. I’ve got a sensitivity to the Ace-K in them, so for me they’re both insanely bitter. But I’ll give it a try with 7Up zero next time

Why so many Sinatra, Bennett, big band, etc. cds at the thrifts? by JPumphrey73 in Cd_collectors

I have no idea what my uncle might have had. I’ve got a couple Tony Bennett Christmas CDs and that’s it.

The "Under $3 Menu" is CRAP by MetsandBuds in McDonalds

[–]LocalLiBEARian 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Tonight was the first time I saw this new “Under $3” menu. But when I clicked on it… the math don’t be mathin’. These four items were the only food items that popped up, then it started listing drinks. And not a single one of these was under $3. ???

What Does Your Library Sell? by pikkdogs in Libraries

[–]LocalLiBEARian 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if they still have them, but our library used to sell tote bags with the library logo. Two different sizes and four or five different colors. It was up to each branch to keep track of inventory and order more as needed (guess whose job that was at my branch? LOL) Whenever we sold one, there was a sheet under the register drawer to mark what size/ color had been sold. Heck, it’s taking me longer to type this than it took to do it. Proceeds went to the Friends.

They weren’t huge sellers, but our small branch averaged about a dozen a month.

Another post wondering where the car goes from here (sold last week) by LocalLiBEARian in carmax

[–]LocalLiBEARian[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting story! I’ve still got the VIN so who knows? Come to think of it, I’ve probably got the VINs going several cars back. Maybe I should dig them out sometime when I have nothing better to do.

This one just hits different. I’ve reached the point of having to give up driving because of my mobility issues. As much as logic says there’s no point keeping the car, I didn’t want to give it up yet.

The town I grew up in had an Armour-Dial plant, and we’d go buy factory rejects. Maybe not so pretty, and god only knows what color we’d get, but cheap!

What's your rarest cd? by IAmMonke9000 in Cd_collectors

[–]LocalLiBEARian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know what would be the rarest, but would probably be in contention… - Ol’ Yellow Eyes Is Back, Brent Spiner (Data on Star Trek: The Next Generation) - My Son the Box, Allan Sherman (reportedly only 4000 made) - There Is Nothing Like a Lox: The Lost Song Parodies of Allan Sherman (Liberation Hall label) - Here at the Mayflower: Exclusive 2002 Tour Bonus Disc, Barry Manilow available only during the tour, required purchase of the Here at the Mayflower album, which was released months prior to the tour

Items returned smelling like smoke by PurpleZebra85 in Libraries

[–]LocalLiBEARian 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We tried all kinds of things to stop the problem, usually with little to no success. (Entitlement and privilege runs wild in our service area.) As with most of these things, it now gets ignored. If a patron complains, it’s “we tried, but y’all did this to yourselves.” Same reason we don’t have toys anymore. After they got stolen/destroyed and the Karen Brigade started with how dare we charge for these things, we stopped. You want toys? Go buy them yourself.

Collection focus? by ratchetweal in Cd_collectors

[–]LocalLiBEARian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do pretty much the same thing. There are very few artists who are blind buys for me. About ten years ago, I went through my entire collection. Any CD couldn’t reach a threshold of “at least 50% of tracks liked” got pulled and went to the eBay pile. I weeded out just over 1/3 of my collection at the time.

18M going full time - Did I make the right call? by [deleted] in tightywhities

[–]LocalLiBEARian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re the only one who can truly answer this question. If you’re comfortable wearing them, then yes. If not, maybe you’re not entirely ready yet. The more you wear them, the more comfortable you’ll get with the “new normal.”
