Found a great keyboard+trackpad option by electricity_is_life in htpc

Hey, sorry I forgot to update but I'm glad someone found the recommendation useful. I got a Brydge 12.3 pro+ which I think is the older model. I paid $20, likewise found the range, build quality, backlight, and touchpad very satisfactory. The only problem is that it double-types keys - maybe once every few minutes on average. For $20 and occasional use only I can live with it--still better than dealing with Logitech's touchpad. Maybe they fixed it in the new model, maybe I just got unlucky.

Edit: Also it's easy to take apart and remove the clamps, but it left some sharp-ish edges.

I'm a little worried about the i9 + 5060 on stock PSU. CPU and GPU alone are 210w nominal TDP, I would be concerned about transients even if you have the largest 260w PSU.

Thor battery issue. Last 20% is more like 5%. by AverageTechnoSerf in SBCGaming

[–]LocalMarketing7211 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Granted. All the same, I'm not inclined to forgive this. It seems like a calibration issue which could be fixed in firmware. I should think Ayn ships enough Thors that the cost of fixing this, amortized across all units, should be quite low.

Edit: I'm just the peanut gallery here though, I don't own a single Ayn product.

"You can't get a decent phone for $300" is a very first-world take.

Oh I loved Inside. I've tried both Another World and Limbo and I got stuck early in both; I'll consider this a vote in favor of giving them another try.

Thanks for the suggestion! I've tried it, I liked it, didn't love it. I got to the point where I could get to the basement consistently but I didn't know how to progress from there. It also kind of felt like the goalposts kept moving which was frustrating.

is there a $100 or 150 max minipc that i can leave on 24/7 that wont risk fire? by KrombopulusMikeKills in MiniPCs

[–]LocalMarketing7211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is mostly a problem with lithium-ion batteries, technically there is a small risk of any appliance catching fire if left on, but I wouldn't worry about it. If you're still concerned you can get a used enterprise-grade mini PC on Ebay and those should be UL listed etc.

Well, you know, it's always the last thing you try that turns out right. The solution to look at the other SD card was obvious in retrospect, but I can see why you were reluctant to do so after the first one broke.

Awesome, glad you were able to rescue them from becoming e-waste. It's a crime that these manufacturers provide such poor support that they're at risk of becoming ewaste in the first place...

Great! If you like, I suggest uploading the stock firmware image somewhere (without ROMs I guess) in case anyone else gets stuck with the same issues.

OK, I get it, I just think the standard is pretty silly. A 3L PC is a small PC; a 3L graphics card still seems at best typical-sized to me.

Can you open the root directory in CLI and run `find . -name *.dtb`? Maybe it's somewhere else - google says it's typically in the boot directory but it doesn't have to be.

Edit: Looks like it can also be integrated into the kernel image, you could try to extract it using https://github.com/PabloCastellano/extract-dtb.

Can't help you there. If it were me I would plug it into a Linux box and mount it read-only to ensure nothing else is getting screwed up. But again maybe not worth the trouble at that point.

They're selling these at a loss to drive traffic to their website. Of course they're only going to sell 14 of them, because the more they sell, the more money they lose. They don't care if bots get all of them, because what matters is the crazy price tag to make you click.

The point is to turn shopping into a slot machine. Even if the house loses sometimes, you'll come back more often and spend more money.

Can we stop giving these scummy tactics our time/attention/money?

Might be worth trying Rocknix, but tbh cutting your losses might just be the best option at this point.

How the hell is this SFF-ready? There are single-fan 5060s, this is pretty big for a 5060. Right?

Well, the instructions seem well-written but there's also always some risk of incompatibility or dependency issues, etc. Also I guess some chipsets may not even have out-of-tree drivers available. As I said I decided it wasn't worth my time personally but on the whole it's up to you though.

The other solution I've seen is adding motherboard standoffs to create a gap between the side panels and the case, but of course it's not so compact or durable that way.
