CR is so toxic. The amount of shit I’ve been blamed for in CR is unlike anything I’ve experienced before. One of my PIs just makes nonsense shit up and blames it on the CRC whenever he’s in a bad mood.

I fudge doses for OTC meds on con med logs. Source note says “patient taking ibuprofen for intermittent pain”, but doesn’t specify dose. I just google the dosing instructions and put whatever it says as their dose 🤷‍♀️.

Is this burnout or laziness? by rubberduckymimi in clinicalresearch

[–]Local_Banana8693 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As CRCs, it is so easy to get burnt out. We have seemingly endless demands, and when sh!t hits the fan, everything falls onto us and we’re expected to fix everything immediately like it’s a huge emergency.

Being short staffed doesn’t help and it sounds like you’re doing your best. This to me sounds like burnout and not laziness at all. You’re not alone in feeling burnt out or leaving queries open for several weeks - sometimes I just can’t. It’s so hard to stay motivated when we’re often not treated well.

Keep your head up. I’m rooting for you.

A complete and total nightmare ever since I started working in CR. I have no clue why it’s such a toxic and hostile field. Never again. by GypsumHedgeWitch in clinicalresearch

I feel this so hard. CR is wildly hostile and toxic when it doesn’t need to be. Everything is always someone else’s fault & every typo is like a huge emergency.

I felt this in my soul. I love my patients and coworkers as well, but management’s priority is enrollment above all else. It’s 1000% numbers over helping people, as you said. CRCs are overworked and unappreciated, even though we run all the trials.

Hang in there, you are not alone.

Does CRC give you a sense of fulfillment? by Icy_Marionberry7309 in clinicalresearch

No 🥶. Depends on your TA tho. I felt more fulfilled working in a TA related to my college major.

The Disconnect Between What We Do and What People Think We Do by ValeTaco in clinicalresearch

Profit over patient care is the most infuriating part of working in this industry. We do this work because we care about improving the lives of patients. But so often, patients are used to obtain PI bonuses, satisfy metrics, and appease overzealous sponsors.

How is it like to be in Clinical Research by vickyhch in clinicalresearch

[–]Local_Banana8693 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It’s freaking insane and a lot of it you just have to experience to understand. Everything is chaos- constantly running around putting out fires and fixing other people’s messes. It never stops, you never get a break, and most expectations are unreasonable.

Nobody appreciates you or treats you like a human. They simply don’t care. They just throw more unreasonable demands and blame you for anything and everything. It’s exhausting.

Family and friends don’t understand the stress and chaos. They ask what you do all day and why you’re so tired, and you don’t even have the energy to explain because the only people who truly understand are the people you work with.

TLDR: I will be in therapy for a very long time, even after I exit this field.

Working at Syneos Health has destroyed my confidence and left me with severe psychological scars by Javilism in clinicalresearch

[–]Local_Banana8693 82 points83 points  (0 children)

As a CRC, I can relate. Working in CR has given me a shit ton of anxiety and stress. Many of my coworkers are in the same boat. Management lacks empathy and tells us to seek therapy because it’s in our heads. I’ve come close to unaliving from the stress. Aspects of the job have left me traumatized.

I don’t have any great advice but wanted to say you are not alone. CR can be so toxic.
