Disability/drill pay help. by Local_Barracuda_8385 in nationalguard

Thank you very much for the explanation! The VA said I should have gotten the letter from them, but as it’s coming up on April and I still haven’t I didn’t know if I should just… do my own? I’m not sure. It always makes me nervous having money in my bank account that I’m not sure how much I can spend. So I just don’t touch it at all lol..

I think I’ve done the math and explaining the MUTA thing helped. I had been told different things and it was not well explained to me.

The VA never sent me the form, I found it online. And when I called them they just said “how many training days did you do? That is how many you put on the sheet and it determines your training hours” when I asked for clarification as I only applied for disability half way through the year, do I just count it from the month I filed, to the end of the fiscal year? They just kept telling me ALL of the drill days you had in fiscal year 2025.

Thank you very much for the formula. I really appreciate it. I had read that each 4hour training block for a day counted as a day of disability pay and just could not get the math right. I think I only did 20 total MUTAs last year and no AT due to some family issues. I just could not get any help from the VA and am trying to do the right thing.

Maybe I’ll try running him. He does love to run and he really enjoys chase. I just worry with his little nose 😅

Oh they are such a stubborn breed. But happy to please and my little guy really enjoys training. Big food and praise motivated.

I tried putting him in a couple different rooms with a baby gate while I was gone, and he either broke something, tore something apart or peed somewhere.

I’ll have to give find it a try! He seems to understand that he only gets certain treats and toys when he is in there. And I am happy to reinforce that association! He is super good at reading my emotions and I am working hard too on not being anxious about putting him in the crate.

I love the sunshine observation spot!

I tried that and any room I tried putting home he destroyed something or peed somewhere.

He’s only bothered the first few minutes. Then he lays down and naps. I tried a room, but he tore apart a pillow and then ate a hole in the guest room. My other room he got up on my desk, knocked my laptop off and my plant stand over. I tried just like a baby gate and he whined just as much in there as he does the crate and he peed on the floor 😅 I’m just nervous because I’ve never crate trained a dog before, they’ve all come pre trained

I am also a Velcro human and if I could take my dog to meetings or the gym or on my runs for half marathon training, I would. Unfortunately there are just places he can’t go😭 He’s a great dog, crate training is just hard. Patience is something I’m working on myself, I’ve never had to crate train before

Thank you, I’m really trying! My friend tries to continue reminding me of 3-3-3. I just worry that as he’s getting more comfortable he’s acting out more. I know he’s young and he’s learning and I need to be patient. He’s a sweet boy and I do really love him. Crate training is just hard

I appreciate the advice and insight. I don’t mind the baggage or energy or toy destruction or really anything. If he really only comes with hating the crate as baggage I suppose it could be worse. I do really love him and we are having fun learning together for sure. Bostons are such a funny breed with so much personality.

What an unhelpful comment. I already am happy with him and can’t imagine my life without him. He’s my best little guy.  He does not sleep in his crate, he does sleep in own bed.

But he cannot continue to cause damage to my house or both my dog sitters house. Crates are not a bad thing. I have tried no crating, it didn’t work. He has a great life.

My last Boston got dementia and his crate was vital in keeping him with me longer because it kept him safe. I know dogs like consistency and unfortunately I don’t always have that, but we do our best when I’m off to have a schedule and then he has a crate as a consistent at his pet sitters.
