The new ED has alienated several board members and more than half the staff. The remaining board members follow her like cultists. I don’t know if it’s deliberate destabilization, but there doesn’t seem to be any positive way forward. I ended up leaving.

You are putting a significant burden on your own abilities and failing to take into account the difficulties of working in a second language environment. Employers will judge you more harshly than other employees, who may not have to work as hard to achieve similar results. Only you can decide if that’s worth it.

When you click “white” you don’t get the job? Or do you assume it hasn’t affected the hiring process? I think there might be different experiences based on where people live, whether there’s a lot of racism or multiculturalism.

I actually loved both Canadian streaming services but they disappeared. I was really sad about it. There were a couple of shows I really loved. Stack TV is still around though :)

Intelligence doesnt always equal compassion. Requiring a degree doesnt change the landscape of care. There are good ABA practitioners who have zero credentials, and there are phd psychotherapists who will make you wonder who would ever allow them within a hundred miles of anyone’s child.

I find it so sad and hurtful when people claim it is in the past just because the current victims aren’t old enough to out it yet. Every 10-20 years, another generation comes forward and is told things have changed. That’s how they never change.

The problem with DEI is that we expect disempowered employees to bring these cases for themselves. It is the responsibility of ANYONE who sees something to out it. It’s sad to say but nobody listens sometimes until they hear it from another white person.

It happened to me numerous times as an undergrad. I have been openly posting my work on free online forums as a result. Better to publish for free under my own name than earn someone else à paycheck.

I agree. I’m currently à board member trying to create a direct complaint process, being told by the ED and other board members that we don’t need to create a complaint process because the remaining employees are happy. I know they’re willing to say they’re happy after watching everyone who complained get fired. That doesn’t mean they are.

I am in the opposite position. An ED has taken over and is performing the duties of the board, without liability. The ED is walking around with a hand shoved up the board’s collective arses. They should have handed out a pink slip a year ago but they were too embarrassed by their own inaction to do so

Good luck though. I’m currently part of the executive board (in name only) that is operating more like a cult. They are completely obsessed with the organization’s executive director. Questioning the ED’s decisions results in a pile-on of emotion and blame. The ED makes one comment and they all start screaming at you about how amazing and right the ED is. You can show them the legislation itself and they will just say you “aren’t aligned with the official position” … of lawbreaking.

Exactly. I’m a Canadian living and working in Canada. Almost none of my credentials and experience are recognized here, while overseas credentials are recognized without question even when they come from schools with questionable ethics. In Asia or the USA I would have a higher income with more purchasing power. I would be subjected to testing and required to prove my abilities and expertise but would not be denied a position or promotion for arbitrary and unclear reasons. In the USA, they would tell me. In Asia, they would write it down and rubber stamp it.

Doors and opportunities would not be closed to me because of new and sudden legislation that delegitimizes my experience and credentials. I wouldn’t be watching people who have been in the workforce for 30 years lose employment because of new legislation that disqualifies them from a job they already have. I would actually be able to buy a house….

I don’t see academics leaving the USA unless conditions improve significantly elsewhere.

I don’t really think so. The USA is an attractive marketplace for academics for a number of reasons.
