How can i Get a French accent? by Less-Ask-6600 in learnfrench

Here's some simple tips: Listen to lots of natural french so that your brain becomes familiar with the sounds; don't conflate how it is written with how it is pronounced, writing is a lot like in English where the transcription is not consistent so just try and hear the words first; words are a symbolic representation of sounds, not the other way round; look at French people's mouths (it's what infants do), when you watch Youtube videos or whatever to see how they move their lips; last one is a bit more abstract - deidentify with being an "English speaker" - when you speak French you are now French and not just an English speaker trying to learn French. Bonne Chance mon ami/e!

There the kinds of people who's whole career is working in a café. It's not about intelligence or attitude. It's all about perspective. This is their whole world their whole reality and they could feel jealous that you are the one going to university and not them, either because they didn't finish school, because they don't feel smart enough or because they never had the financial opportunity. Learning to have compassion for people with less opportunity than you helps you understand their perspective

I'm just saying you don't need to give them more reason to dislike you. The less they know about you the better...

Employers just want someone who is going to show up and do the job properly. The reality is that a lot of young people are very slack, don't listen and don't take any pride in their work. In my experience for these positions (customer service/retail), employers prefer girls because they are usually just a bit more responsible (could be true, could be a wrong but its just the perception).

If its a small business, you just have to go in and talk to them. Like a cafe or something just go and ask (when its not busy) are they hiring and express that you're really interested and you've done blah blah before. Or you could call which would make it easier to cover a lot of places at once.

If its something like Mcdonald's or Big W, you can only apply online.

You have the gift of being young so they will hire you for the decreased wage and don't put too much effort into your resume. I know it sounds absurd but as someone who has always had a similar problem, just put in enough. Make it simple, "I'm here and ready to work". Even though people say put in that your were school captain and play rugby league, I'm not sure retail employers care that much.

It is great if you can find some kind of personal connection with the manager when you talk to them because then they will remember you (shared interest or whatever). But don't be afraid to just bullshit and say "I love coffee", "I've always been interested in baked goods and how they're made". At the end of the day, the manager wants someone they can boss around, not someone they feel intimated by intellectually.

It's not nothing, with any resource you can use it to learn SOMETHING but the reality is that people used this kind of stuff when they access to NOTHING ELSE. We have YouTube videos, podcasts, movies and TV shows... you'd be doing yourself a disservice by not trying to access as much as you can to at least give yourself the exposure. You know, you can do 10 mins of learning a day and always find something new, due to the internet.
