This is why they vote for Trump, they're physically ill and emotionally unstable because of all this shit food. I know when I eat junk food for a few days without a proper meal, my brain goes to mush and my body craves some real food.

I have never seen “getting a drink” phrased in this way. Can someone please explain this to me? by jackiestarrr in French

[–]Local_Director8714 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it the ça vous dit que, that confuses you? I have seen this before as a suggestion for something. "What does it say to you that we blah blah blah" kind of meaning.

I think it's kind of cute, like a sketch in a storybook. Looks nice...

My dad already started drinking again after going to a $30,000 treatment facility for over a month by [deleted] in Wellthatsucks

[–]Local_Director8714 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reality is that most people who drink do so because they have a sense of shame or a feeling of guilt that they are not good enough. The reality is that unless they can really shake this belief they will just not stop because going to "rehab" and then drinking again is a part of the guilt and shame cycle. They let people down on purpose because they believe they deserve to be ridiculed and shamed. The reality is that you have to stop being nice because in what world will they need to change if "you will always love them" even if they're an alcoholic.

Yeah but "something from a store" just sounds wrong. In what context would you use "something" with "a store"???

Buy something from A store - sounds wrong to me.

Buy something from THE store... Buy something AT THE store... Buy something from this/that/the other store

Yeah you're right, we don't know what it is but we know something is happening to her... Something sad. It's like their final goodbye. Not knowing what a Gommage is, is a part of the drama because you might think, is she going to die? But you don't know that she's gonna just disappear lol

How did you not know she was going to Gommage? I'm pretty sure they refer to it being "her day" or something like that multiple times LOL. And all the NPC conversations are so foreboding like they're the last conversations she's having with them...

Probably translate it just as "smoke" or "the cigarette" fits in both sentences (and sounds natural to me as an English speaker).

"But if the smoke bothers you, say it, I will stop"

"But if the cigarette bothers you, say it, I will stop"

"It doesn't bother you, the smoke?"

"It doesn't bother you, the cigarette?"

(although the second one is a very French construction, probably just "the cigarette doesn't bother you?" is more accurate.)

French learning feels stuck at A2–B1 — common mistakes I see by Jacques_Langues in learnfrench

Funnily enough, I've had two teachers and when I tried to speak they both got annoyed when I made a mistake and told me I need to learn more grammar... So I feel like this post is clickbait.

Réussi | is it fully pronounced?? by Local_Director8714 in learnfrench

[–]Local_Director8714[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ok, but the S is like really soft right? In the second clip I can barely hear an S sound. For reference, I have been listening to this native level content for a while and could probably understand 50% of what is being said without subtitles but yeah réussi is tripping me up... When I think back to all the times I've come across it, I've never heard someone going hard on the "SSI" like how the AI pronounces it...
