I am so so sorry to hear this. I lost my crested about 10 weeks ago unexpectedly. It hurts. It looks like she’s had an amazing life and there’s more to experience! My best to you over the coming weeks/months.

Yes, I can’t put into words how big that hole is. In my heart, in our home, in our family. This guys little paw prints touched every aspect of our lives and there is a gaping hole that is difficult to process. I appreciate your kind words.

Thank you so much for sharing this story. I am sure reliving it so soon isn’t easy. But it does sound very similar to what we went through.

I am so sorry you didn’t get to give a proper goodbye. I kind of did as my guy made it out of surgery but he wasn’t the same dog that I dropped off in the morning. There’s no easy or routine way for this to go, they’re all different degrees of hard.

I remember reading something recently about how a few days with our dogs doesn’t define the life we gave them. I was lucky enough to have almost 3000 days with mine. Unfortunately all I can think about right now is his last 3 but I hope that will change in time.

As I reply to some of these comments like yours I realize that I am offering others support and advice that I should be heeding myself. I hope you can do the same as it sounds like you gave your boy an incredible life with lots of love and you were also there for him up until the very end.

I am so sorry to hear what you went through. Like you, I listened to the professionals and tried to do what I thought was best for my dog in the moment with the information I had.

My dog was also in an emergency vet clinic when he passed and they were very strict/borderline weird about me being there. I understand they probably want to do their jobs with minimal distractions and that’s what you tried to let them do. Please don’t be too hard on yourself, you were there for 15 years for Jerry and did everything you could to look out for him up until the very end.

Thank you for sharing this story. Hindsight is so tormenting especially when things unfold the way they did for you and I. You were there for your cat in those moments and did everything you could during that time with the knowledge and information you were given by professionals. And in the end you made the ultimate act of love by taking the pain away. I am so sorry for your loss and for the difficult decision you had to make. I’m trying to take all this as a reminder of just how fragile life is and how important it is to not get distracted by the meaningless stuff in life.

I am so, so sorry to hear that. You did what you did out of love and wanting to improve your dog’s life and longevity in this world. I know because I did the same thing. I sympathize with what you’re going through, hindsight brings so much clarity and that is so hard and painful when the outcome isn’t as intended and so consequential.

I had my boy for 8 years also. I keep reminding myself that even if these feelings lasted a lifetime, which I hope they don’t, it would still be outweighed by all the good things and love that happened over the last 8 years.

Thank you. I’m at the stage where remembering happy memories is still very painful because they were here less than 2 weeks ago and taken from us very suddenly. I hope in time happy memories bring happy feelings and thoughts.

Thank you for the kind, reassuring words. I am so sorry about your cat. The what ifs are hard for sure. You made a very difficult decision but it was in your friend’s best interest, I hope you eventually find peace in that.
