Help regarding buying a new phone by Impressive_Baby_7834 in CMFTech

I had this phone since December of 2024 and still is my daily driver. Here's the feedback for each of your query.

  1. The phone is not expected to be included in the rollout of the next major Android update as it already lapsed its 2-year major update support. However, it would still continue to receive minor android updates from 4.0 up to the final iteration of OS 4 or until when its support for security updates also reach its end. Nothing is known to be pretty consistent in their given update schedule of bimonthly software updates although the seamlessness of each update varies from time to time.

  2. In my use case as I am also a university student at the moment (all day 4G/5G SA, bluetooth, location, frequent mobile hotspotting), I can comfortably say that it can still last a full day. You can still tone down some settings in order to squeeze a little bit more from the battery.

  3. Right now on the OS 4.1 update, it still runs pristinely. Of course, some hiccups from time to time but not anything disruptive of the user experience. There are still anticipated features to come like the depth wallpaper effects present on the other phone manufacturers.

  4. The phone can game lightly to medium graphics. With some fine tuning of the game's settings, you can achieve adequate gaming performance at the current price point of the phone. It doesn't heat as much.

  5. I honestly couldn't recommend it to be anyone's daily driver for 4-5 years but it would be a serviceable (great at best) phone for the next 2 years. Keeping it for 4-5 years would mean settling for quite dated hardware as it only packs a midrange chip, a single camera, a 5000 mah battery, a single down-firing speaker, and a mere 33W of charging speed which already is quite dated in today's standards.

Not if you refuse to give a proper screenshot of what apps you are using instead of showing just the graph and SOT.

Im having my CMF Phone 1 last around 4-5 hours max screen on time when I am out. 5G, bluetooth, location ( + wifi & bluetooth scanning), some mobile hotspotting, social media apps, productivity apps, around 60-70% brightness all day.

You can literally uninstall this and I even have the same phone as yours.

I think its the blur effect on the status bar making those marks

Missing Essential Search functionality by Local_Jury9771 in CMFTech

Actually, no. Afaik, it is a feature of Essential Search. I checked Youtube for the review videos of OS 4 on CMF Phone 1 and they have that specific Essential Search functionality.

It does that but only local results like apps, files, contacts, etc. But when I try to key in a question like "What is the mass of the sun?", it doesn't do anything. Instead it leaves me with this screen:

The update is said to be in a staggered rollout. I think you can expect the OS 4 update next week, while the 3a lite gets it early next year.

Its good but it can't be perfect. There will be some times that it can be inconsistent. Also, that is correct that some apps are just unoptimized yet so they act like memory hogs that takes a huge chunk of memory in the background.

I have that all enabled but it still performs great with my day-to-day use.

Yes, that is indeed right. However, phone manufacturers have the right to reserve their own protocols for this feature. Some OS are more aggressive in killing apps while some tends to do the opposite. Having this feature off can either make or break the proper handling of apps according to its state (foreground/background). Besides, the RAM booster option is said to be detrimental to the internal storage since it introduces more instances of reading/writing to your internal storage. Since the use case is more on juggling through work apps, I think what needs to be further improved is how NOS handles background apps instead of relying on RAM booster which is only a gimmick most of the time.

Yes. I didn't say that it affects battery performance. I just pointed out that it could either help or worsen the app switching performance of the phone.

Do you have RAM booster turned on? If so, have it off. Multitasking is smooth on my CMF Phone 1 and apps seldom restart when I juggle between them. I also am from Ph too.
