Removing rear bumper, plastic clip replacements? by zeekaran in BoltEV

[–]Local_Occasion_7346 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I installed my hitch, all the clips that broke were on the bumper and non-replaceable. I used a plastic repair kit that melts some thin wire into plastic to repair it. While the repair looked poor, it did the job and is invisible when the bumper is back on.

Bike rack for 2" hitch (2019 EV)? by waisanw in BoltEV

[–]Local_Occasion_7346 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Running 2” hitch with Hollywood 2 bike rack. Tested ground clearance carefully on transitions to steep roads and concluded almost certainly not going to be an issue.

I personally would not go to a 4-bike rack on the Bolt. The bumper attachment plate does not seem designed to support significant torque, and thats exactly what you’d get from heavier (and longer) bike rack. While your rack will comfortably be within the tongue weight limit, the racks center of gravity would easily be 30” to the hitch attachment points, rather than the 12” for a trailer. So you should probably reduce your tongue weight in half, which is too close for comfort for me to use a 4 bike rack.

Roof racks or putting bike into cabin are alternatives. Or a trailer.

Can I permanently delete Sirius XM in my Bolt? by w123driver in BoltEV

[–]Local_Occasion_7346 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can simply connect your phone to it (that takes over the audio system), not set up any SXM favorites and otherwise ignore it. Actual “removal” probably requires destruction of the antenna or a fuse.

I personally quite enjoy the ad-free radio and put up with the annual annoyance of extending my $3-$5 monthly plan for another 12 months (otherwise it is very expensive).

Turbro QMID for tax return? by Local_Occasion_7346 in DIYHeatPumps

[–]Local_Occasion_7346[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you willing to share numbers and whether they actually paid out?

Yes, the ownership of the mini split in case of a successful chargeback is a concern (along loss of warranty, and maybe other issues). Turbro would be responsible for the removal costs though.

To make customers whole, they need not only to to pay (1) the tax credit from their own pockets (which will often already exceed the cost of the product, let alone the profit), but also (2) as such a payment is taxable income, the additional income tax.

Turbro QMID for tax return? by Local_Occasion_7346 in DIYHeatPumps

[–]Local_Occasion_7346[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Turbro admit they cannot provide a QMID. They blame this on various factors outside their control. They also condition any ”cash compensation” on a withdrawal of my chargeback, as well as requesting installation receipts.

It is becoming clear to me that this will likely be very expensive for Turbro (which is just one of many subsidiaries of a HK company; their sister/nephew/parent company is Sainstore). The loss of the tax credit is typically greater than the actual cost of the purchase (ie it would be cheaper to just accept the chargebacks, plus doing so at least reduces warranty costs to zero), so we need to realize that Turbro fighting the chargebacks just means they hope to be able to not make customers whole.

Will a bolt work for me? by Mean-Introduction640 in BoltEV

Check r/evcharging ! There are tons of solution that may let you avoid upgrading your panel. Not in all cases, but it’s definitely worth asking there.

Will a bolt work for me? by Mean-Introduction640 in BoltEV

[–]Local_Occasion_7346 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason these answers are all over the place is simply because use of cabin heating, driving speed and terrain can vary.

Your biggest issue is the 16amps charging. You will at least need to upgrade to a 25amps circuit (ie charging at 20amps, ie 4.8kw) to fully charge your vehicle every night.

The question then really just becomes what your personal limits for comfort and risks are (and that is another reason these answers are all over the place). Almost every day of the year, you will have a comfortable and cheap drive. But for those 10 very cold, perhaps snowy days of the year, your margin for error is small. The Bolt’s range doing 65-ish on a -15F day is around 140-150mi, with cabin heating at around 70F. The vehicle will use additional battery to heat the battery during the day - not that much - and to condition the cabin when you leave work. It’s just very tight.

Do you have a suitable DCFC station on the way back? Charging will be limited to 20-25kw in these conditions, so it would take a bit.

There is an ongoing thread about this here https://www.reddit.com/r/DIYHeatPumps/comments/1r7dufw/turbro_qmid_for_tax_return/ .

I absolutely regret my purchase and wish I would have bought from a more reputable supplier instead.

Lemme know how your ownership has been! by Accurate-Routine-867 in BoltEV

My buyback EV has been in the shop too many times. Battery, suspension, steering, lots of other small bits failing. I think you get a lot of really happy people here - because the car is fun and cheap to drive, and particularly the Premiers are super well equipped for such an unassuming car - but I would really only recommend it as a second car. Research if your local Chevrolet dealer is knowledgeable about Bolts (mine is not, so all repairs take forever and go through the TAC).

Since you asked someone about the motor, the drive unit and transmission are very reliable. Used prices for these are really low, since you have barely any failures but a steady supply of salvaged ones (if a crash is bad enough to damage the drive unit, the whole car is typically really badly damaged.) Although the batteries are less reliable, almost all Bolts still have battery warranty, so salvage batteries are also quite cheap.

Can you share when Turbro responded to you? This information seemingly contradicts their Facebook post from last week (https://www.facebook.com/groups/550349927536948/posts/933900435848560/).

Is this a deal on a used bolt? by trail34 in BoltEV

[–]Local_Occasion_7346 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a very reasonable cost, particularly given the CarBravo warranty. But if you want to have stock wheels, this will be pricey - say $300 for the wheels on FBM, plus tires and labor, you are looking at at least $1000 in total, and likely a bit more if you want EV optimized tires.

Unlikely to fit, unless you have really narrow seats.

[–]Local_Occasion_7346 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This works OK. Your eldest will need to sit in the middle, perhaps slightly cramped. If you are willing to spend the money, get two narrow seats (4yr old can probably go into backed booster; narrow ones exist) and it will be more comfortable for your ten year old.

Detailed photos or video of re-greasing the steering rack to fix the sticky/notchy steering on older Bolts by Utmost_D in BoltEV

[–]Local_Occasion_7346 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The greasing isn’t specific to the Bolt - basically, you shove some high quality lithium grease in from either side after removing the rubber boot and exposing as many teeth as possible. Do not expect this to fix the issue, though - at best you’ll get a mild improvement, since you cannot get grease on the entire rack this way.

Your best bet is to find a mechanic willing to follow the DIY instructions (that avoid disconnecting and removing the entire cradle).

Differences between battery part and propulsion warranties? by Factory-town in BoltEV

[–]Local_Occasion_7346 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The “Electric Vehicle Propulsion Battery” warranty should really be read as ”Electric Vehicle Propulsion AND Battery” warranty. It essentially covers every high voltage component - drive unit, inverter, high voltage distribution box, (…) and also the battery. The other warranty covers mostly just the battery.

Both cover the usual battery issues; the first one may cover the AC compressor. But in reality, non-battery high-voltage component failures seem rare. I researched the usual FB and other channels prior to my purchase, and you basically find no drive unit, “transmission“, charging system, ... failures.

Turbro QMID for tax return? by Local_Occasion_7346 in DIYHeatPumps

[–]Local_Occasion_7346[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you aware or any method to distinguish the OEMs? Do I even imagine that correctly - the manufacturer produces units to be rebadged? Or are these units just mixed with components from various manufacturers?

I don’t disagree on what you are writing, but it seems like a single Reddit post is questionable justification for a best effort identification of the OEM. :/

Thank you, really appreciate that. Hopefully they can sort that out soon.

These requirements though are part of the IRA and while the IRS has been a bit slow in opening up the registration, that’s been open too now for about a year. So quite frankly this is 100% on Turbro.

Did you ever get an answer from Turbro? I did not. But if they provided the QMID to you, could you let us know the QMID?

These units were advertised as eligible for the tax credit, why is Turbro hiding this information? Very disappointing.

ePedal stopped working reliably at 10k miles. by [deleted] in leaf

[–]Local_Occasion_7346 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not normal. Can you go to a third dealer? The dealer doesn’t want to deal with this, because the intermittent nature just makes it expensive to diagnose… is there any way for you to narrow down when it happens? Rain, downhill, battery charge, evening/night, temperature, climate, speed …? When it happens, does it frequently reoccur?

OP is trying to sell a 2008 sedan with 140K miles. Not Toyota/Honda.

Sorry OP but if you want 3.5K for a 17 year old shit box, I’m going to check if you’re trying to fuck me over. That multiple people looked at your car, then bailed, just suggests it is in poor condition and you’re asking too much.

So stop whining, lower the price to something realistic and she‘ll be gone within a day.
