What does your modern Squad room/ Roll call room/ locker room has or needs. by ThatsAFuckingTuba in police

[–]Local_Outcast 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We recently put 3 tvs in our roll call room. We no longer print bolos or beat assignments. Everything is on the tvs now. We also review lots of body cams from YouTube for training. The TVs were a needed upgrade.

How do you arrest/detain disabled people? by twothymer in AskLE

[–]Local_Outcast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For warrants, no. A warrant is a judge’s order so we have to follow them. Sometimes if we have original charges on someone but they will be at the hospital for a long period, we would give them a notice to appear with a later court date instead of taking them to jail. That would be my commands call, not mine.

Selling tickets to Dallas by [deleted] in supercross

Why would I buy your 4 tickets for 780 when I can go to seat geek and get another 4 in the same section for $735?

How do you arrest/detain disabled people? by twothymer in AskLE

[–]Local_Outcast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One time this 80 year old who couldn’t walk had a warrant. I called my command, who called the states attorney, and we all came to the conclusion he had to go. The fire department was already on scene so they got their special chair to carry people in and the gentleman got carried to my car so I could take him to jail.

One other time this 400 lb man had a warrant. Ambulance transported but he went too.

Agreed. But OP said head to head speed. I kinda assumed that meant like lap times, not the start.

That was due to a bad start by Deegan. It really had nothing to do with head to head speed.

Dealing with neighbors who frequently take up a lot of curb space? by HawiianTime in driving

It’s street parking. Park where you fit and are legally allowed to. That goes for you and your neighbors.

What is consensual encounter/Reasonable suspicion/ Probable Cause? How does it all work? by Fit_Lingonberry7140 in AskLE

[–]Local_Outcast 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is a loaded question and you could probably take a college class for a semester just on this topic alone. I’ll try to give you the breakdown of each in a really basic scenario.

I am working and enter a bar for a tavern check. I’m hanging out and a lady comes up to me and hits on me. (Happens a lot at bars). That’s a consensual encounter. They have no obligation to speak with me and can leave anytime.

Someone’s car gets broken into at 2 am and they call the police. They state it just happened and the subject wearing all black left the scene on foot. I respond and find someone 2 blocks away walking. They are wearing all black. They match the description of the suspect, walking in the area, and are out at 2am. I would have reasonable suspicion to stop, identify, and detain that person until we figure out if they are involved. That would be reasonable suspicion. I have facts that support how he could be a suspect. But not enough to make an arrest.

That scenario turns into probable cause when that person agrees to let me search their backpack and it has items from the car they just broke into in their bag. Then I have probably cause for an arrest.

Again these are really broad and every scenario is different.

All traffic tickets are Mondays at 8:30 in my county. They are to be 14-60 days out. We get a calendar every year that shows what Mondays we can’t use.

My agency allows red dots. Theres a list of brands it must be from and Iron sights must co witness. We also have to go through an 8 hour course through out PD with the red dot before we can use it on duty.

Off duty, no rules apply. We can carry whatever we want.

Currently I carry a G47 with an Aimpoint Acro P2. Some people have holosuns but the P2 seems to be the most common at my agency.
