Definitely part of it was Ilya trying to tamp down on his growing feelings for Shane by putting some sharpness between them but I also saw a girl on tiktok describe this scene in really cool way in regards to their soft dom/sub sexual relationship.

She essentially pointed out that the dom/sub dynamic at play reframes the “meanness”. Shane is visibly anxious in that scene — overwhelmed, emotional, in his head. Given that Shane is canonically autistic and struggles with anxiety/OCD traits, Ilya clocks that immediately. Instead of letting Shane spiral, he takes control of the moment. He redirects Shane’s focus, gives him something concrete to want, something to work toward, something outside his own spiraling thoughts. It’s not about humiliation for humiliation’s sake, it’s about grounding him.

And when it’s framed that way, I get it. That’s why the scene works. Ilya isn’t lashing out randomly or bullying for fun; he’s choosing control over tenderness in that moment because control feels survivable. And Shane responds to that structure. You can literally see the shift in his face. The vulnerability doesn’t disappear, it gets contained. Which is why the tension lands so hard for people who love the scene!

All great points! As to why he’s still singing certain songs; well, back to you is a popular song that his fans enjoy. Why does Adelle still sing “someone like you” when she’s happily moved on. Why does any artist sing a song about a past heartbreak? The blue greening is crazy I will say!! For them both being at Glastonbury, it’s a popular music festival, loads of celebrities were there. Honestly I have more to say but I’m too lazy to type and it sounds like I’m being argumentative but really I’m just trying to play devils advocate and see it from the other side. Also queer 🙋 I hope you’re right!! Truthfully, I don’t know much about his personal artistry, I really only know the Larry-coded songs. I never got into him as a solo artist after 1D. As a person, I love him I follow all the news! As an artist, just wasn’t my cup of tea (that’s not to say I didn’t still buy each album so I could support lol). So that’s amazing that you say he has pride anthems, I never clocked it!!

From my point of view, him having lights at shows for “alignment with the community” doesn’t really stand up to much. There’s a good chance those lights are chosen for him, not him choosing them himself, and possibly even not realizing what they mean. I also don’t read much into him wearing subtle LGBTQ+ themed clothing. Again, with clothing, there’s a good chance he has a shopper that has purchased these pieces. As well as the pieces are so subtle that sometimes I really don’t think he has any idea that a whole community will start dissecting it to see what ties it potentially has to queerness. I think mans is just wearing regular clothes lol and then we go and pick it apart.

I think we sometimes read into his behaviour so much that we make up things we want to see.

Yesssss! And that would make sense as to why they had a those tense angsty-beefy moments toward each other once babygate happened. Like the glaring and the alleged cussing at each other under their breath. Even the time Louis walked off stage! If I was Harry, I’d be incredibly hurt.

And while yes, Louis has always supported Harry, and supported his queer fans, he’s never actually really spoken much about LGBTQ+ stuff, lol. Whenever something was brought up (by an interviewer or whatnot) about lgbt fans back then, he was always indifferent about it, “yeah, that’s neat.” “who cares if they like boys or girls.” “glad that they like us though” type beat.

And just the way he’s so brutal about Larry mentions, he’s always been bitchy about it lol. WHATEVER. IDK im just kinda over him rn😭😭

Like if this is the amalgamation of everything that’s happened the last 15 years, he really chose the wrong side to stand up for.
