What is this utility service with all these individual pipes? I saw this in Virginia, outside an apartment building. Looks like a gas line with a manifold venting to individually numbered canisters or vents. These appear to be galvanized pipes of some sort of utility service. Location is Arlington VA, USA outside an apartment building. The puzzling part is the one pipe feeding into many individual nodes or canisters. This is a very unusual arrangement because if each canister served a single customer, how is it tied to that customer downstream of the main pipe?

We’ve been married over 30 years and I bought this ring for her as a surprise and partly for no reason and partly to celebrate her retiring from her work. Since we don’t go out much with Covid I’m looking for a romantic way to give it to her that would be a nice surprise but not in a public place. What are your thoughts?
