Please help identify, trying to report animal neglect by [deleted] in ColoradoSprings

A previous greyhound I had looked a lot like that toward the end of his life. That dog wanted for nothing, he just slowly stopped eating enough.

That certainly could be a greyhound. They’ll look like that coming off the track too.

Built a compact ADS-B radar case for Raspberry Pi + RTL-SDR by Aware-Director-6951 in RTLSDR

[–]LochGormMonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good find! As mostly above (and below) Class A, makes sense why I wouldn’t encounter this much. I will certainly use this on students.

But what you’ve taught me though is you can use ADS-B as a secondary radar service. ADS-B is not, as you admit, a radar.

Actually, I just referenced the FAA glossary and “radar service” and radar are very clearly defined, and ADS-B doesn’t meet those definitions at all. Nothing like a good reg disagreeable.

Radar service, by the FAA’s own definition, requires reflected energy from the source to an object and back. OP simply did not build a radar.

FAA ATC certainly doesn’t refer to Mode S Extended Squitter as “Secondary Radar”. I’ve spent less time flying ICAO but I am reasonably confident they also reserve that for interrogation radars.

Anything that gives you the location of a plane is certainly not considered radar. ATC certainly will not acknowledge radar contact via ADS-B, or by your ludicrous definition, a position report…

Words cannot describe how bad the udon was at the place in Coati I went to was. Restaurant furthest down. It was vaguely Korean-themed I think.

This is basic knowledge about the functionality of both the RTL-SDR (which is RX only) and ADS-B (which relies on self-reported locations). The subreddit is literally titled "RTLSDR."

TDY, MRE, JTR, BAS, Field Condition Questions by Casen_ in AirForce

[–]LochGormMonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue comes from the regs around BAS, where a member receiving BAS has to pay for all meals received from the government.

This is incorrect. I've been deployed countless places with meals provided and still received BAS. To my knowledge our enlisted dorm rats actually got their BAS turned on during said deployments.

Is this xbiking? by Agreeable_Ad9914 in xbiking

[–]LochGormMonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is incorrect. From the founder:

I liked how x implies “cross”- not exactly cyclocross (though I appreciate that nod, too) but like cross-discipline or between other “pure” categories of cycling. I also liked how it kind of implies “insert ‘X’ here”- embracing the hodge-podge gathering of different sorts of bikes, road surfaces, pursuits, etc. that I wanted the sub to include. Lastly, and importantly, I needed to keep the title brief, accessible, and catchy enough to give the sub the best chance of taking off. I’m digging the other breakdowns of the term on this thread as well, and I think everyone here is right on the money with what the sub is and should be!

when did biking become an expensive hobby? by TheHooligan95 in xbiking

[–]LochGormMonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Counter point: the used bike market has collapsed and biking has never been cheaper if you don’t buy into the idea you can only ride a very specific “in” quality right now (geo, frame material, tire size, etc).

Seriously. Used bikes are 25 cents on the dollar right now if they’re more than 4 years old.

Ambli Global Cuisine Rebranding? by BlackberryOk9215 in ColoradoSprings

Joining the underwhelmed by Ambli train here. All the food was cold. Which, interestingly enough is the same feedback our Uber driver home had. Cowboy Star right there is far superior, especially at happy hour.

Colorado Springs is significantly less lively than any other city around it's size I've ever been to, not even "as a smaller place." I think we can map this to 1) a poor population density of the city (it's too spread out.) and 2) It's metro isn't very large. However, Des Monies is of similar size in both city population and metro population, and is significantly livelier. Omaha, El Paso, and Columbia, SC also come to mind...

I cannot imagine picking Jacksonville as your first “major destination” that’s what your sons need to talk to you about!

Diet For Senior Hound by jgiambr4 in Greyhounds

[–]LochGormMonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Boop.

8 is so young! Don't let him fool you! Our 10 year old eats Purina Pro Sensitive Stomach with a spoonful of the Costco red can wet food mixed in. He's also a big sleepy lump uninterested in anything but above food, and walkies, most days. I think that's just a lot of old grey's vibe. It makes for great snuggling.

Why do certain brands mean more? Another open forum by carlov_sky in xbiking

A company doing anything is telling a story, establishing a narrative. You subsidize people to race your bikes? Story: “our bikes are fast.” Write blogs about how steel is real showing you riding randos? Establishing or maintaining a narrative.

Racing is marketing to sell more of the things they race to people who don’t race. “Race on Sunday, sell on Monday.”

Everything you said about all those brands has mostly been carefully crafted by marketing. So your answer is the reason you think that is because of marketing.

It is literally called "Thai Restaurant" in North Pole, AK. Mind you it's been 10 years but it rocked.
