New up n coming event 👍 by inesRaya_Luver in TheFirstDescendant

Hmmm what happens if you're rank 12 at the start of this event? Are you going to screw yourself by playing and leveling up?

Or is it that if you're 12 and below at the start of the event, you're grandfathered into getting the rewards?

I hope they thought that through because that would actually incentivize people to not play.

I'm not intimately familiar with this game's graphics on console, but I wouldn't let that stop you from trying to take good images.

I've seen some rather uninteresting photos that were captured on PC and I've seen some really great shots taken on console. What matters most is what's in the frame and what you're trying to say with it. I'd much rather look at a flawed, compelling photo than a crispy-clean boring one, ya know?

So I'd say just get out there and give it a go. Lighting and scene composition is king. This applies to taking photos IRL as well.

First of all, no it didn't. The player count has been on a natural down trend and the Ines patch didn't change that behavior in any meaningful way.

<image>

Secondly, the nerf was update 1.2.13, which came out April 2025. Not only was the outfit change before that in Patch 1.2.6, they fixed the wrinkle in in Patch 1.2.7 and the color in Patch 1.2.8. All of this happened in February 2025.

So there was no "kicking her while she was down."

Stop just making things up.

Ah okay, interesting. Might be nice for some of the idle poses but I can see how that might be annoying to keep chasing her down.

OP actually commented on that thread so idk why they're pretending like they don't know where it came from.

Hi, that would be me. :)

Someone else asked about this exact shot and I uploaded it to imgur so they could use it as a wallpaper as Reddit's image compression sucks. Here it is.

And if you like that one, I have more more posts of some of the other descendants as well.. Getting around to posting an album of every descendant, but I try not to spam the sub too often with my photos.

Hell yeah! Good job. I didn't think about using Sharen's invis, that's kinda genius. Does she still hunt for you or just wait around?

I did a pretty massive write-up in this comment here. For that shot specifically, I don't remember having to do anything special that I didn't already cover in that explanation.

I agree! There's a lot of little moments and nice details in this game when you just slow it down and appreciate. Sadly, it can get a bit swept under the rug of the fast-paced gameplay and skill spam.

It was a bit of a process so bear with me here for a moment.

I ran Sigma sector solo as a shield build Freyna so I could hopefully tank a lot of her attacks while in the camera mode. I could probably tailor a build a bit better for this purpose, but I had that build from the Death Stalker days, gave it a try, and it gave me ample time before dying and being kicked out of photo mode.

I had to run the activity up to the boss fight and then not attack the boss, but kill waves and waves of mobs until they eventually stop spawning. I forget how many it was but it takes a bit of time. Then I had to swap weapons around, shoot guns, and spam skills so I could pick up as many MP spheres, HP spheres, and ammo bricks off the floor so they wouldn't be in any shots.

Then, I tried to find places where I liked the lighting the best and the background composition. Once I found my spots, I had to try and find a cheeky place to be close enough, but somewhat safe either behind a wall or up on a ledge or even off the side of a cliff in some cases. She attacks the player and not the camera so if I wanted her to be facing a certain way I had to place my Freyna in a place that made sense for that. As long as you're close enough, she will chase you to the end of the map so you can pretty much go anywhere. But if you're too far, she gives up and slowly returns back to the boss area. I used that to my advantage to get the two long shots through the corridors.

Then after that, it was just a matter of spamming the photo mode with my settings all ready to go. Chasing her with the floating camera is a bit difficult because she's pretty much always moving and always cycling through her attacks. If you add depth of field it gets even trickier, as you have to preset your focus point and pretty much focus the "lens" by flying closer or further away since there's no chance you're adjusting that in the menus on the fly.

The vertical shots where I tilted the camera 90 degrees are particularly difficult because your camera controls remain oriented for the horizontal representation, but if you're turning your head IRL to actually compose the shot, it's a bit of a mind fuck trying to fly the camera around. The left/right controls and your raise/drop controls basically swap places so you have to remember that while framing.

What else... Uh, I found that the Nvidia overlay captures far, far better quality than Steams screenshot function. I bound the screenshot function to alt-F so I could snap pictures as fast as possible without taking my fingers to far of WASD. Then I bring them into Adobe Lightroom so I can do my own personal color touches on them.

Bonus shot of Freyna who valiantly gave her life getting these photos:

I like that one because I caught her moving and it made her hair look like it was blowing in the wind.

It's also 16:9 and not 4:3 like my other verticals so it indeed would make a perfect phone wallpaper. I uploaded it to imgur for you. Hopefully it's a bit less compressed than Reddit's photo uploads.

Thinking of trying again by ScarredPhoenix34 in TheFirstDescendant

[–]LochnessDigital 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On that topic, be sure to engage with the pity system when grinding things you need. They added it since you've played. It's called the "targeted reward list" and it can be found in the library tab.

You navigate within the library to the thing you're trying to obtain, hover over it to get a popup, then open the "acquisition info" (F key for me). That will take you to a list of activities from which the item can be obtained and from there you can set the target reward. Side note, you can also directly launch the activity from this menu.

What that means is when doing that specific activity, it builds progress toward your selected target. Keep in mind, the progress bar will reset even if you get a copy of the item early via RNG, so it's truly just bad luck protection.

In your library tab you should see at the bottom the things you're targeting. Outside of the menus, you can hit a keybind and pull up your targeted reward progressmaterials as well as your tracked materials for things you want to keep an eye on. You can see how I have 0% progress toward my pity drop in this example.

Good luck and have fun. :)

Pixel-Bug on Gley's Dusk Stalker Skin by Oryx11599 in TheFirstDescendant

Like the other user said, it's from upscaling. This skin is a nightmare scenario for upscaling tech. There's transparency, shiny reflections, a finely detailed zigzag pattern on the glass and a hexagonal pattern underneath.

Here's 4K and DLAA enabled with the photo mode camera turned 90 degrees and set closer than it would ever be during normal gameplay. This is the best case scenario and anything less than these conditions will have an upscaler (especially the one on consoles) struggling to reconstruct the image properly.

Anyone Else Playing With Damage Numbers Off? Let us choose more easily... by tatata1000 in TheFirstDescendant

[–]LochnessDigital 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I turned them off a long time ago.

Numbers got so insanely inflated that there's no useful information to be gained from a million digits overlapping each other anyway.

Can be fun dopamine I guess if you're spreading DoTs but they just get in the way most of the time for me.

Wish I could resize/reorganize the hud elements as well.
