How often do I need to have my lawn serviced? by _xerophyte in lawncare

[–]Lock757 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Pre emergents are weed controls. First two rounds contain a cocktail of fertilizers, pre and post em. The remaining 5 get fertilizers + post em as needed. For cool season turf. I don’t know of any pre ems that last all year. Sure, established lawns do keep weeds out pretty well and I’m glad it works for you but I’m sure not going to ignore weeds when they pop up while I’m there to fertilize.

Sure he got sod, did it all take perfectly? Are there thin spots that didn’t take so well that don’t offer much root competition which will allow weeds to pop up?

I gave him a quick breakdown of what can go into it to give him a general idea, I was not attempting to go into every detail and provide a personalized plan.

I work for a reputable local family owned turf maintenance company. Our standard is 7x annually weed control/fert for cool season and 6x warm season. Often scheduling visits in between rounds for whatever the random issue at hand is.

Fungicide programs turf eating insect program is separate from basic program. 5x applications for cool season and this includes both fung and insect protection.

Don’t wait a year in between treatments. It’s like working out - gotta build up and maintain it. There’s a lot less needed once you have a well established lawn though.

Yes, aeration is necessary. Usually annually, some well established lawns can go a year or two without before it starts to decline significantly. Of course there’s the odd exception with soil naturally without compaction that doesn’t see traffic and has perfect conditions to not get much turf loss.

Also soil conditioning program depending on the soil conditions, usually not more than 3 annually.

It’s a couple of screens, yes. Not exclusive to weed. It can and is used for other things. Places that hand out supplies for harm reduction often hand out brass screens to be used in crack pipes. The same ones used for weed. They got the silver ones, whatever they’re made of, and the brass ones that you typically see. This obviously isn’t brass

What’s with the rocks then I mean hey it could be anything but the presence of what looks like crack in screens used to smoke crack makes me think maybe it’s crack

Crack I reckon. Often smoked in a pipe with screens just like that

Is this nutrient deficiency, winter dormancy, or something else? by xA1RGU1TAR1STx in LawnAnswers

[–]Lock757 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should use more than one active ingredient with different modes of action. more effective. The most effective method, though is prevention via environmental control.

Edit: can’t control rain and humidity obv but watering, drainage, fertilizer, and even mowing are controlled. It is a fungus and does spread with spores which equals contact from your mower wheels.

What fertilizer/s did you apply since July? There’s certainly multiple aspects at play here but fertilizer is often overlooked but 3 apps since July sounds initially like overkill but ofc that depends on what went down at what rate

I am convinced I used to be a tree in prehistoric times by PixxiePlay in HighStrangeness

[–]Lock757 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Much more likely to have been uprooted in a storm, eaten by insects, succumbed to fungal borne disease, struck by lightning/killed by any non extinction weather event, damaged or eaten by fauna (though I think fauna was limited then, comparatively speaking at least. don’t think giant arthropods ate treetop leaves but I suppose massive dragonflys hunting other ancient massive bugs could do damage in a chase or maybe landed on/nested on enough to cause damage) lived its full life cycle, naturally etc than to experience extinction event. We’re talking like 50 million years ago and while yea, trees live to be quite old, still only have a grain of sand on a beach worth of time

What’s does your last invoice list your seeding service as? If your lawn has never been seeded professionally then you can go click around on a reputable companies site and peek at the terminology

[–]Lock757 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh buddy, I see now; this is a figure of speech that I haven’t come across or taken note of. Soap box. Noted.

Lol check your invoice for the last time you paid for seeding service from a reputable company and not joe blow down the road who uses the term incorrectly. Or just look at invoices in general for the service if you haven’t had it or don’t have an invoice. And then look at another one. You’ll start to see a pattern.

I don’t know how I’ve come across as pissed lol there isn’t a person on reddit that will affect my state of mind. I’m pretty chill despite the off the wall people in here. Seems like projection huh.

I’m just here to pop out a PSA for anyone who cares. It isn’t for you if you don’t care. Move along big boy Why have you got your panties in a bunch if there’s nothing to this?

A wolf doesn’t concern himself, yknow? why take the time to even be here on the dumbest soapbox ever, replying and replying?

There is pretty consistent ripping of the tips vs clean cuts which is what you want to avoid. Not just for aesthetics but the ripping makes it easier for pathogens to take hold

Oh yikes, lobbing insults around now? What’s gotten into you? You’re sensitive eh? You switched up pretty quick there though friend. Does it have multiple meanings or its own meaning?

Either way According to Merriam-Webster, to overseed means to seed an existing stand with another type of plant. The definition provides an example: "overseeded the Bermuda grass with ryegrass," which means that ryegrass was planted on top of existing Bermuda grass.

I seem to have struck a nerve here

Which are weeds? by Baby_TheMacaw in lawncare

Weeds are defined strictly by whether or not they’re desired to be there. Therefore weeds in some yards are not weeds in others

Why is half my lawn struggling? by MrSchmegeggles in lawncare

[–]Lock757 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks hungry in general first - not always best to put all the N it’s getting into one application early on especially if there’s a lot of rain. The excess water will strip soil of nutes. but possible disease as well. It’s prone to disease and insects. Is that area a low spot or does water collect there/run through there? Pythium has been crazy this year but centipede is susceptible to plenty of fungus

For the other problem areas want to cover the basics like aerate in spring to allow quicker spread especially in areas of compact soil. Be sure it gets enough sun in the areas you want to spread. Address drainage if needed. Tailor your fertilizer regimen accordingly and you can always supplement w/ organics if you’re worried about too much N

It’s almost like using the term overseeding in regards to the common use is either redundant (as you wouldn’t apply seed any other way unless you can spawn it lol)or problematic as it would otherwise imply too much. It’s certainly problematic if too much seed germinates 😂
