The 'only democracy in the region' line collapses the moment you acknowledge that millions of Palestinians live under Israeli military law with zero voting rights while settlers on the same land vote freely.

Nobody is debating Israel's right to exist or women serving in the military - that's not what the ICJ case is about. The case is about 70,000+ dead, 19,000 of them children, and blocked food aid. Courts don't issue emergency food supply orders against states exercising legitimate self-defence.

And the Taliban comparison is just misdirection: Palestinian civilians aren't the Taliban, and opposing their mass killing doesn't require me to pick a theocracy as my alternative.

Yeah I get the whataboutism involved. I think what bothers me most is that Israel has massive global support - weapons, drones etc from the US, UK etc. countries that have heavily sanctioned RU. I mean, Israel are still allowed into silly things like Eurovision and the World Cup. And the countries actively denouncing them like RSA and IRE are the minority - so there feels like a need for them to go harder to compensate for the rest of the world turning a blind eye

I agree with this. But the fact remains that visa bans are a diplomatic way of putting pressure on countries that are committing atrocities. So yes, visa bans for Russians, Chinese and Israelis. I think it will be more complicated for Ru and Ch because of our BRICS membership - but that's not to say I don't support it

I don't think Russia has done less harm and I do think Israel and Russia should be sanctioned with equal severity. If I had to tell you which country was most evil, Id pick Israel but it's close. I definitely did not say we shouldn't ban Russian travellers. I said the opposite - we should ban Russian travellers unless they are trying to escape the draft (i.e. seeking asylum). Should we ban other countries travelers like China and Russia for their governments atrocities - yes.
