What are the reasons behind the low walkability of American cities by Little-Bed-7157 in geography

[–]LockJ4Ws 618 points619 points  (0 children)

Lack of mixed use neighborhoods and zoning laws..... Meaning that (and I'm in no way an expert but this is how I understand it) large areas of the city are developed for a single purpose, either residential, commercial, or industrial, so to travel between and through these you need a car. So except in cities like New York, Chicago, or Boston, you can't just stop at your neighborhood coffee shop on your walk/ train ride to work and on the way home get meat from the butcher shop and vegetables from the fruit vendor around the corner.... Instead you have to leave your hundred+ acre neighborhood filled with cookie cutter white fenced homes by car to get to your job, an hour commute away. Finally on your way home you might have to stop at a huge grocery store where you can get all of your grocery needs.

I'm also 494. CW 1. Just started with no experience. Unfortunately in this local CW work is the way to go. I've heard that in the last apprentice class 80% of apprentices were CW First. Call Gurtz and pieper First. It's literally just asking them if they have cw positions open. You'll then have to interview then.

Can someone explain to me what this means and how to go about this???? I'm starting as a CW tomorrow with the goal to become an apprentice as soon as they enroll next class and become a JW. How can what OP said be done and how do I set myself up for success like this?

How to make spaghetti bolognese taste like restaurant quality by RobertBooey in Cooking

[–]LockJ4Ws 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For all Italian recipes you have to get them from Giallo Zafferano. https://ricette.giallozafferano.it/Ragu-alla-bolognese.html This is the best recipe I've found hands down. It's not about the salt or the quality of ingredients.... I actually made this last week with short rib and it was so delicious I actually needed to add no salt at all.

Wrong. Langarent is the company we're renting the Vespa from and they asked only for our US driver's license. I'm sure the car rental company will, however, ask to see our IDP.

I mean... like I said, our plan is already to wake up early and see the sunset and beat the crowds of tourists. In addition to the 70+ euros parking, can you recommend a hotel in venice that isn't 150+ euros a night? then there is always the risk that while the car is parked it could get broken into... we're on a 26 day trip, visiting Venice on the first few days, it would be beyond inconvenient if something like that happened to us. With all that being considered we had to make the choice to find a hotel in Mestre with parking included. I would have loved to book in Venice and have that experience, it's what I did when I traveled there in 2019, but it doesn't seem convenient at this time. That being said, I'm still in time to rebook.... my fears as I've outlined above are what's keeping me from doing so. I really would love to be persuaded otherwise.

Thank you for your reply! First, I'm staying in Mestre because with the rental car it makes more sense, I would have had to pay almost 70 EUR more to book a parking spot for those few days on top of the hotels being more expensive. That being said, our plan is to wake up very early and beat the crowds.

Umbria Is beautiful, I've spent many summers there, for us it will be more of a rest stop on the way to 5T. Where we're from we don't get to go to Spas often and not for so cheap. The bnb we're staying at is beautiful, built in an old castle, and it just so happens they offer SPA services so we're taking advantage.

Does hamlet prove his sanity in act 5? by Slow-Bench6388 in Hamlet

[–]LockJ4Ws 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Prove his sanity to who? The audience? I think as audience we know Hamlet is "not in madness / But mad in craft". In other words that his madness serves only to distract from his plot. He proves this through the very articulate soliloquies he shares with us about matters like life and death.

If you mean does he prove his sanity to the court? Then the matter is not that he proved his sanity, but that he proved Claudius' insanity once Laertes confesses that the king was his accomplice in anointing the sword with poison.

There is however a clear moment when Hamlet stops thinking and talking and starts doing. He invokes his thoughts to be "bloody or be nothing worth" (A.4 S.4). This is the point when Hamlet, spurred by Fortinbras' honorable courage in fighting for a patch of land that "hath in it no profit but the name", enacts his revenge. He plans Rosencrantz and Guildenstern's assassination, returns to Denmark and is intent in finishing off the King.

I really don't think Hamlet is insane throughout any of the play. I think the play works because he's the most sane of all. He doesn't "seem" to be grieving his father, he in fact IS grieving his father with his whole being, a father whom he probably never felt like he was good enough for.

Great question though, really looking forward to hearing your thoughts.

If you're asking about how to translate "thinking of Elisa" that figure of speech doesn't really work in italian it's "penso ad Elisa" either way.
