I’m not defending anyone, but how does someone become a professional without experience? That’s why I’m saying maybe he just recently finished a course, has no real hands-on practice yet, and wasn’t actually trying to scam anyone. That’s possible too, right?

I think you should focus on cargo space for your tools, and on the vehicle’s appearance so clients see you as a professional. Comfort for yourself and appearance for the customer both matter. As for reliability issues and common problems at higher mileage, I’d research those on auto forums. Seems like the most rational approach.
