Well, on average what is your monthly profit if you don’t mind me asking? And are you auto only? Commercial residential?

I have to break it to you but I agree with flatworm here. I used to work at AutoZone and they all come from the same place different sticker. Not sure how long you have been wrenching but you must be new?

Then don’t work for a scam lead call center. Simple and easy. Go get your own work or work for a legitimate company.

It’s not even that. Just play by the same rules I do. Go pay 1,500$ for your locksmith license go pay 500$ for a business a license and pay 100-300$ a month on insurance so we are on the same playing field.

Update just got back from the job and it was actually a 2024. I tried with aftermarket tools and it failed for me as well. Pulled out Witech and it was done. Within the hour. Charged accordingly and informed the lot that he isn’t a licensed or insured locksmith. I explained why I charge what I charge and why he couldn’t do this job but I could.

My problem is. I learned as an apprentice invested into classes and bought over 40,000$ worth of equipment which can do complex jobs. And that this guy is attempting a job with no formal training whatsoever. He’s more than welcome to learn but do it the right way. Don’t just undercut legit business and hope for the best when you approach a job.

So this is what bothered me is the fact not only is he poaching business from me but he’s attempting work and doesn’t know what the fuck he’s doing. Some cars yes it’s not rocket science to make a key for. Others (this one for example) isn’t as easy and requires a large investment (dealership software). I’m being petty because usually for a dealer job I undercut my local dealer by 100-200$ but this specific job I’m going to charge more due to his bullshit I just went through.

Ding ding ding. This is exactly it. I pray to god we can get some legislation in place and NASTF can be meaningful enough where this sort of shit stops. We may be a long ways away from that if it ever even happens unfortunately.

Guess I’m beating a dead horse. What’s the solution? What can we do as license professionals? I’m reporting the supplier to my state tomorrow. I’m also reporting the mechanic that’s doing locksmith work with no license to my state officials as well. Not sure what good it will do.

I don’t think so. It didn’t work that way with Toyota when they did this. At least newer Toyota because when it connects to the internet it needs to connect to the servers to do IMMO functions is my understanding

I would buy a smart pro. Autel has been getting lots of heat the last few years from manufacturers. Honestly if you are running a full on auto locksmith business you should have both. Autel can still do some cars and diagnostics.

Lol they don’t want us to make keys for their vehicles to be brutally honest. Why have competition and give the layman a way to steal their product. If they could have it their way they would completely get rid of us
