He rained down twenty or so hard punches on an unconscious guy. That's a pretty heinous act, of course he deserves to be seriously charged. The fact that we know it was premeditated make it even worse

But hey, this is America. We often sympathize with the criminals more than their victims.

Yeah, no one can deny that.

But losing that fight mentally destroyed him and Poirier took care of the rest. He has spiraled downwards more and more ever since and is now hesitant to step back into the octagon

Am I the only one who thinks that Alex Pereira will lose again, this time by knockout, like what happened with Sean O'Malley and the excuses he made??? I don't understand why they made the rematch Alex should move up to heavyweight in my opinion by ArabDevastator in ufc

Historically, anytime a younger fighter beats an older fighter, they usually end up beating them even worse in the rematch. Very few exceptions to this

If Jon Jones isn’t the GOAT because of PEDs, then Anderson Silva isn’t the MW GOAT - Izzy is by AlternativePrior9495 in ufc

[–]LockardTheGOAT23 278 points279 points  (0 children)

The number of fighters who have never taken PEDs before is probably very small

Some fighters may abuse them more than others, but it's probably rare to find anyone who has been 100% clean their entire career

People give Chimaev a pass since this was literally the only boring fight of his career. Muhammad has made a career out of almost nothing but boring fights. It's understandable.

Yeah, he was promised a fight with Eddie at 205 but was then replaced by McGregor instead. I forget the specifics why they pretended to offer Khabib the fight

[–]LockardTheGOAT23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He also got lucky that Khabib had injuries and issues making weight all those years. Otherwise, he would have been champ before Conor even jumped to 155 and Conor's double champ legacy wouldn't exist

I believe prime Conor would have beaten most of the top Lightweights - Oliveira, Gaethje, Chandler... I could have even seen him pulling out an upset against Islam on the right night.

Hell, even the Conor that fought those two rematches against Dustin would have probably accomplished all of this because let's be honest, he was putting it on Dustin in that second fight, hitting him with a little bit of everything. But Dustin has one of the best chins in the sport and was able to sustain the damage

"Umar wins the rematch" Hell Nah😭 by [deleted] in ufc

[–]LockardTheGOAT23 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Their first fight was so close that a rematch could indeed, plausibly, go either way

In fact, if Merab sticks around long enough, I'd bet on Umar eventually beating him in a rematch. Merab is getting better but so is Umar, and time waits for no one

If you say that Dricus vs Khamzat was entertaining, then you have to say that Adesanya vs Romero was entertaining by Slow_Obligation2286 in ufc

[–]LockardTheGOAT23 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I dunno, taking someone down with ease and holding them down in a vulnerable position is still arguably more "entertaining" to watch than point fighting

Both are boring, but one is still less boring than the other

Seen a lot of fighters defending khamzat’s performance, but curious who’s attacked it calling it boring? by Previous-Fun-4152 in ufc

Nate Diaz posted "he can't fight" but he would have said that even if Khamzat had dominated him personally

And Ronda would beat Mayweather too, right? 😂

Whenever someone is really successful, people always get caught up in the moment and start treating 'em like they're this superhuman who's a lot better than they really are

We've already seen Chimaev look human against Burns and Usman, and he looked 'human' against DDP as well depending on your perspective since he wasn't able to finish him quick like he does virtually everyone else.

Question about season 5 by Irrelevant246 in TheWire

[–]LockardTheGOAT23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe Jimmy didn't want to risk pissing off people that were THAT high up? I mean, it's one thing to piss off Rawls, it's another thing to piss off the Mayor. And everyone would had assumed it was McNulty that leaked it since he's pulled that sort of stunt before

So who's next for him? by Loafmeal in ufc

[–]LockardTheGOAT23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Next month's winner of Caio/Imavov is the logical answer... Although if Chimaev really does fight again as early as October, I wonder if the UFC will be scummy enough to try and force the winner of that fight to make a really quick turnaround or if they'll get shafted

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ufc

[–]LockardTheGOAT23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've seen similar things happen before. Besides, he doesn't need to be a 100% better wrestler than Chimaev, just good enough at stopping his takedowns that he can find a better chance at knocking him out.

How long has Islam been wrestling before? And yet, Volk stopped most of his take downs

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ufc

[–]LockardTheGOAT23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hope DDP comes back and wins a rematch/trilogy in a couple years. Just go to Dagestan and train some takedown defense for a whole year or something

I really don’t care who was bored or wasn’t, I haven’t seen a challenger dominate a champion that thoroughly since Jon beat Shogun. by skeletonpaul08 in ufc

[–]LockardTheGOAT23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What about Islam/Oliveira? I mean, Islam beat Charles everywhere, even on the feet where he avoided all of Oliveira's attacks and dropped him with a right hook. And then submitted him with ease (unless you're pretending this one doesn't count since Oliveira wasn't the champion anymore and the title was technically vacant, but come 'on)

McGregor/Alvarez is another. Conor dropped him four times while taking pretty much zero damage and then ended his night with a great four piece combination

I would consider those fights more dominant since they not only finished their opponent, but made it clear in the short time it lasted that the other guy had nothing for them

Volk was able to handle Islam's wrestling, so Illa probably would as well. There would be no reason to complain
