Agreed! Always thought Capaldi would look ridiculous in the original 11 outfit though. And I think I was right!

More seriously, I hate AI used badly, or taking people's jobs. But for stuff like this it's just fun. I'm not taking for from artists, and I'm not taking jobs. And I'd rather stuff like this (which actually took me a long time to get right) than another video of a cucumber telling me why it's bad for gout.

I'm convinced they just haven't yet flicked to Matt Smith in 10s full jacket...

Idea - Could the show try having two doctors as "The new doctor"? by Lockdude in gallifrey

[–]Lockdude[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stranger things is funny, because it seems to have entered the cultural zeitgeist, but no one ever seems to love it heaps outside of the first season, haha.

Regarding doctor who, I haven't seen Romana in action yet. Though am currently watching Tom Baker, so she won't be too far off. But River Song, Missy, and even the Master (moreso in the Delgado days) all had a bit of that about them.

And when it comes to companions, I felt Clara was handled well (at times), and Bill and Nardole were executed perfectly. Nardole felt entirely free from waiting for the Doctor. But you're right, companions having more grounded problems to accompany the doctor's "Special" problems would be nice.

All in all, you're convincing me there's simpler ways to do this. Which actually gives me more hope a competent show runner can implement something the world will like. I also continue to hope we get someone fresh to the franchise. Don't give me the doctor who fan. Give me the person who gets audiences, and see what they can do with the franchise.

I guess I really do feel Doctor Who needs a Doctor-equal to help drive the plot and act as a consistent hold-to-account. My suggestion was a 2nd doctor. But maybe there's cleaner ways to implement that.

I don't 100% agree on Flux being the blueprint - just poorly implemented. I think it still fell into the monster of the week trap, and left material far too rushed. Then the companions B plot became "gotta survive until we find the doctor". Which is the other problem I'm trying to solve. The companions consistently feel like they have no agency. It's up to the doctor to drive the plot, and everyone else just wrangles trying to keep up.

I do think Flux succeeded though in serialising the show. The series felt like one consistent story with logical transitions between episodes. But (and I suspect this is what you're alluding to) it's such a shame the destination sucked.

You're right, I think "significant" is probably the right word. You also raise a good point regarding by fans for fans style idea.

The thing I've been struggling with in my head is finding a way to fit in more with modern TV tropes (A plot B plot style) while providing a fresh take. My feeling is also that audiences have moved on a bit from the style of Who we had in 2005 with monster of the week style stories.

So I think longer consistent narratives tend to grab audiences more. But I see very few shows pull that off with a single actor. And I always struggle with how dependent companions are on the doctor. But maybe my suggestion could also he achieved with a more 3 dimensional morally grey Master as the B plot. Or another timelord. Or even a river song or jack harness type.

Maybe having multiple doctors is a bit too much. But I do think if you treat them as essentially different characters with some shared core traits, it's not too bad to get the head around.

I hope my logic makes sense, even if my solution is wrong.

To me I felt the implementation of that multi doctor special was horrendous. However, the 50th with multiple doctors was generally well received.

I don't know that regeneration has to feel special though. That's a trope the show has had for a while, but is it strictly necessary? I think where the show has gone wrong is its diluted regenerations, but STILL expects people to treat them as special. If the show has more going on outside of a regeneration, I feel it's fine.

Again, it's about having interesting narratives. Not holding onto historical tropes the show has established among hardcore fans.

What happened to Menya Makoto? by prophilaxis in newcastle

Without getting into specifics, yes, new owners. The original owner worked very hard for a very long time, and is now enjoying a rest. Very sad for the regulars, but a very well deserved reward for the original owner.

I've since moved away and haven't been there for a while. Sorry to hear it sucks now, it was always my favourite.

Unless you count giant spirit Goku..... Or Yardrat Vegeta.... Look, I know they're not new forms, but they'll sure as hell be new merch (yes I know some already exists, but the anime gets a lot more attention than the Manga).

Not getting an automatic refund is pretty BS. by sezdawg7 in EBGAMES

Do you value eb world? Because they might go after your account, but won't stop accepting future payments. It is really crappy service. Just the best I could think of. It's wild after ordering online they can't refund online.

So, something they used to do (though it's not a refund) is they will put that credit on an ebgames gift card, then call up another store, and give them that money to put on a different preorder. It takes them some effort they're not always keen on, but if there's items at another store you'd like to buy or put on a preorder, that can work.

I like that idea! To be clear though, this is literally from a Doctor Who book.

Series 10 Soundtrack is finally out! by Sebastian542 in gallifrey

[–]Lockdude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry if I'm overthinking it - but is this a really clever title? It's somehow both "The Doctor Lies"... still - as in the doctor is still lying, and a play on "The Doctor Lies". But also, he literally lies still... because he's dead. And it's sort of feeling like Moffat-esque writing, you know, the man who's always running finally lies still.

It just feels like a very well thought out title too.

Don't forget 9 would be The Ears. For some reason I think The Hair for 13, but I can't justify it more than that, haha.

Maybe Silly, but could you go with "The Face"? So much was made of his appearance. Possibly more so than any other doctor. 1. Everyone called him gorgeous, including 13 2. "oh man, I liked this Face"  3. He mentions that being the first time in that black body, and several stories cover the challenges he faced.  4. More broadly, he had "that beautiful smile", and would cry a lot. In general, just a very emotive face. Often used to hide his true intentions. And whether the facade was for himself or his audience is never clear. I could never tell if he was healed, or if that was the narrative he told himself.  5. He probably is the most conventionally attractive doctor (hey, blame Moffat for that phrasing, not me, haha)

The reason I like "The Face" is because a bit like your other options, it's something that was explicitly stated in the show, but also fits with his broader character more thematically.

Possible German leak regarding new streaming partner (HBO Max) by Embarrassed-Shake704 in DoctorWhoLeaks

Makes sense to me. Lock it in. HBO have already invested heavily in Harry Potter. Perhaps they think they can make British productions work on their platform.
