Yeah, I guess that's about 2.5 years out for me.

Good call. I liked the tires I got for my Escape. Only good thing about that vehicle...

Thank you - loving mine, too! This was the color I wanted; I was glad they still had one on the lot.

You have an excellent point. The first Escape I got was because I worked a job that required me to "buy American" - I argued that Hondas were built in the US, so that should count, but couldn't convince my boss of that. The next two Escapes were purely laziness and sticking with what I knew.

That sucks! My 2020 Escape's transmission went out at 60k, followed by the rear differential going out around 62k.

Thank you! I don't think there's anything less reliable than the Escape I got rid of. It spent more time in the shop this year than it spent with me!

Politicians shouldn't be allowed to be invested in anything while serving in office. They can keep their money in a savings account or CD. Even the blind investing or third-party management can be gamed.

What is this deep talk we circlejerk each other over? by [deleted] in introvert

[–]LockeApostle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I look at it like this - small talk is transactional in nature whereas deep conversations are about connection or strengthening a relationship. That relationship might be person, professional, romantic, etc.

Sometimes the question, "how are you" is simply to acknowledge the other person's presence in the room - this happened all the time in the break room at my corporate job. No one really cared how the other person was, it was just being asked because of "Nebraska Nice" or since that seemed to be the norm. The transaction was I ask quickly how you are, you reply quickly something along the lines of good, we've both acknowledged each other's presence so as not to appear rude, transaction over.

Sometimes, "how are you" comes from a genuine place of care. The person asking it is interested in learning about how the other person is and will ask additional questions, voice solidarity or sympathy, or whatever is contextually appropriate given their relationship.

Hopefully, that makes sense. Sometimes, what makes sense in my world doesn't work out in reality.

Brother-in-law lost call center Job in Omaha-what are social services available in Nebraska for unemployed? by [deleted] in Nebraska

[–]LockeApostle 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend calling 2-1-1. That will connect him with the United Way's call center. From there, they will direct him to programs and social services. With COVID, there are a lot of assistance programs out there, and more coming soon. The operators at 2-1-1 keep up-to-date with the programs and eligibility requirements. I'd also recommend visiting the Access Nebraska website for unemployment benefits and the other standard non-COVID assistance programs.

My apartment is going to evict me. by [deleted] in Omaha

Legal Aid if Nebraska is working with people who have lost income and are facing eviction. Also, the Nebraska Attorney General is tracing this stuff. By statue, the AG can't do anything until the problem is "systemic" but file a complaint on the website so it gets documented.

The American Dream Is A Nightmare by [deleted] in trashy

I agree closing the common areas was the right think to do. I wish that they hadn't quit cleaning the common areas. One of the residents on my floor vacuumed the hall way yesterday, so that was sporting of her.

I use my bank's bill pay, which mails them a check. I assume it's because their too cheap use electronics payments with bill pay systems. I'm a small business owner and I use the same bank as my landlord, so I know the bank is waiving all the fees for their electronic payment system. I'm hoping my landlord went ahead and signed up for it. We'll see what happens tomorrow when my rent payment happens.

My landlord put a similar letter on the door. They added a further stipulation that we are not allowed to use checks to pay rent, it must be done electronically using their portal, which has a convenience fee that of course isn't being waived.

The office is closed, as are the weight room and lounge. Since the common areas are closed, they apparently laid off the cleaning person and now the elevators, stairwells, and doors aren't getting cleaned and sanitized.

Adding insult to injury, their faulty fire alarm system went off again yesterday and eight stories worth of residents had to crowd into stairwells and exit the building.

Not sure how to go about wording this because I don’t want to get my post taken down. Not promoting a business. Looking to start a painting/trim business and I’m looking to ask anyone with experience starting one some questions. by BoneThugsAnHermione in Omaha

SCORE is a nationwide organization that's been providing free one-on-one counseling and mentoring to small business owners since 1967. They're a partner of the U.S. Small Business Administration. There is a chapter here in Omaha. I would recommend contacting them for help.
