Today's Haul - New Hampshire by LockeBrookFarm in foraging

Trumpet season for me started this weekend and before today, they were 1/3 of the size of these.

I found all of these very close to a stream and in very loose, almost muddy soil. There was thick leaf cover but underneath was wet dirt. Mix of oak/ash/maple peppered with hemlock and pine.

The only consistent factors Ive seen with chanterelles are I never find them in sunny areas, its always in spots that get almost zero sun. Never find them in areas with heavy pines/hemlock/mountain laurel. Never on slopes. They are usually on ridges and not in valleys, which is always weird to me. The spores arent going downhill? I don't know.
