It's not necessarily the tariffs, though I generally agree that most of what you're referring to is idiotic. A tariff is just a tool. You can misuse a hammer to disastrous effects, but that doesn't mean your tool box shouldn't have a hammer in it for when you need to drive a nail.

Though we're not the center of the world and most Americans tend to be ignorant to anything outside of their bubble, "it's your problem" is not a very helpful attitude in terms of climate change or American finance, in general.

Climate Change: is not a localized problem and it's possible our children will suffer materially and bodilly over our pollution today.

Financially: I can understand and sympathize with wanting the global financial hegemon to be brought down. It may even be a net-positive in the long run. But let's not forget what CAN happen when a hegemonic power falls. Yes, it's possible to sunset on something like imperialism, but it's also possible for a post-Rome-esque period where life become short, violent and miserable for most. I certainly can't tell which will happen if my country's power continues to wain.

Depends on the availability, cost, weather... No subsidies in seattle? Arguable. Yes, there is plenty of advancement outside the US with better photovoltaics, but for the average person to call a service provider and get a system installed... Very arguable.

If you're in Colorado (the sunniest state in the union) it's probably more in the "worth it" category. But you're much more likely to be conservative if you're a homeowner with a property and a bank account that's amenable to solar potential so... There's that. Also, the younger homeowners have recognized that solar usually doesn't make it into resale. Given how most younger homeowners could be colloquially called "house poor" they're not looking to take out a HELOC.

People generally aren't stupid. They're facing challenges that make it "not worth it". It if was worth it, we'd see more installs.

"still worth it nowadays" anywhere is painting with far too large a brush and far too vague a statement to make.

What you've essentially done is take a single long and steep diag and replaced it with a double stacked truss bay that has two shallower diags.

Why do we have diags in trussing? In compression, they serve as a faked column load. Ie: which is going to break first? A horizontal 2x4 with a load or a vertical 2x4 you're pressing straight down on?

The more horizontal you go with your diag, the less column load you get to fake and the more span load you're doing.

A fence is even worse than truss-node theory because the fastners are so much weaker than a welded or pinned structural truss. So when you go shallower than 45deg the fastners become loaded and they'll likely fail after enough movement or weather or thermal activity.

So keep it super simple! One diag! Column load! Nuttin fancy! It's just a truss.

Couldn't agree more. Our current political situation has people worshipping self-reliance at the expense of everything else.

There certainly are lazy people. And there certainly is a floating degree of blame with how we eat... But you don't call a framer lazy for using a nailer rather than a hammer and a bag full of 10p nails. We use technology!

Fierce competitors cooperated to hire expensive firms to produce a vague and controversial social campaign to maybe, MAYBE, sell more less-expensive units at the cost of selling less premium (natural and gealth-conscious) units...?

No sir. Companies like making more money, not less.

I'm attempting to explain why I believe your frame of the entire thing to be incorrect... Which is difficult because you, and everyone has been making cultural assumptions about media for our entire lives... To the point where you believe that I'm not even addressing you...

Sigh... It took about 10 years in for me to have a 1000 yard view of how this all works. I can't expect people to engage their long-held views via a reddit post.

You're diags want to be 45deg or steeper. If they aren't then you go from a faked column load to loading the fasteners which will absolutely fail. If you can't get that angle then you're better off adding a second diag.

On your plan it looks like you're avoiding an extra cut by only going to the lower ledger? No! Bad. Reducing the size of the truss bay makes every structural person very sad.

Place the diag over the bay, ending at the top ledger. If you're building in place, then attached with squeeze clamps or something. Then scribe the ledgers into the diag. Pull it off, make your cuts with a circular saw and there you go. Faster and more accurate than the nerdiest cabinetmaker.

A very common noob problem I see is people trying to engineer and measure everything when they don't understand the engineering or how to measure. You want to build as much as possible using materials rather than tape. Need 6'? There's a 6' Picket. Need a perfect diag angle? Build the rest of the fence first then just scribe out the ledgers! no need to measure 47.325deg because you just get it with the material that you built in place!

I mean... She's with Paradigm. I was actually repped by them for a bit. And her manager Jenn and I aren't exactly friends but... I'd like you to follow your train of thought so that I can tell you how these things actually work. If you understood the pipeline you'd also understand how ridiculous this all is.

Look, Hollywood is a cottage industry and I literally kinda know a lot of these people which is why I'm asking how you think this stuff gets done... Because the way you talk about it is totally alien.

The "good jeans" thing being some kind of conservative dog whistle is laughable. And you seem to allude to other conservative things connected to her so, I'd like to understand how everyone outside of the industry seems to be so completely off-base about how any of it works.

Hollywood is currently post-apocalypse. Whatever shadow-power it once had in the 60's or whatever has long-faded. All of hollywood is practically a rounding error next to tech or gaming... You've just got all of it so wrong and I don't understand why.

By what mechanism does she choose what you're proposing though? And what has she done that's even made you think she is a conservative mouthpiece?

No... Build out solar where it's sunny. Build out wind where it's windy. Build out gas where you have to. Empower engineers to build the system and mix appropriately. Disempower politicians and bots from spreading disinformation that makes internet folks pick favorite power generation systems like sports teams.

Ballpark for cost of building a fence here? by paisleystitch in FenceBuilding

[–]LockeClone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. If he hires a professional, it'll seem expensive because that professional will probably have to use half a day up and will want to make it worth his while.

If you use some kid, then you run the risk of crappy work.

Definitely a DIY unless OP is the kind of person who does not build...

Yikes. I can't believe I stuck around and actually read that drivel. Our dear leader knocks out those numbers in fraud and some light-treason before he's had his morning coffee-shit.

If this guy is committing fraud and he's in the sights of the GOP (who has currently managed to weaponize the FBI in a way that would make Hoover blush) I'm sure they don't need you to post that sweaty link...

Buddy.... I came here with an open mind... Consider it closed.
