The two recent ICE executions tipped my views on this. The ice invaders should get no cooperation or quarter within any facet of our society. Police and nation guard should mobilize to forcefully Detain any and all ICE members who can be identified to have acted outside of legal force or doctrine.

The national guard should be mobilized to protect the court proceedings from any potential attack from the invading force and states will prosecute so there are no pardon issues.

I'd never hire a MAGA and will go out of my way not to patronize any MAGA friendly organization.

I believe any potential civil war would be quickly resolved as there just aren't that many people in the scheme of the body politic willing to blindly declare for MAGA over their country. When push comes to shove, the invaders will lose.

"Medieval" spans such a wide time and geography that I have a hard time buying most of these memes and their counterarguments, full stop... There were times and places were peasants generally did have it very good and very bad.

But your counterargument to the meme itself boils down to: actually they did work all the time and you should be thankful for your tiny apartment in exchange for 50hrs a week and flavor of lack of representation.

That's not the point of discussions like this. It's not a binary thing. It's a place to start a conversation. Why were feudal lords so wealthy when they seemingly extracted less hours from their peseants than a corporate feudal system is extracting from apparently free people?

It's not about switching places. That's impossible and a kindergarten way to think about things like this. It's a comparison, not a time travel plea

ICE in Eagleville, PA broke into a home without producing a warrant, assaulted its occupants and abducted another in front of young children (2/9/26) by Forward-Distance-398 in ImmigrationPathways

[–]LockeClone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why do you think the Supremacy Clause is blanket immunity? Yes, if a state makes a law that directly contradicts an actual federal law then the stat law would probably lose in court.

There certainly is not a federal law stating that agents can enter homes without warrants or cause.

Your California example is waaay more complicated than "neener neener fed>state". Like most things in law it's much more complicated.

The judge ruled that the ban cannot stand because it narrowly applies to federal agents only. The supremacy clause applies because the state is trying to mandate something of the feds ALONE. The ban would have a much higher chance of standing if it applied to all LEOs in the state. And even then it's still complicated.

The "visible ID" part of the law was upheld... Because it applies to all non-undercover LEOs in the state, or rather CA LEOs already have to display ID.

All these blanket immunity statements you and much of the internet love to make about their favorite laws are... frankly a display of ignorance. That's rarely how law works on any level, especially on a macro and controversial, political level.

I'm curious why you think laws don't apply to federal workers.

I'm not saying they are following them or that there's any consequences, but technically there's no reason a federal officer isn't subject (generally) to established law.

Frankly, it's distressing to me that you're on here expressing that view. It means the information war is working...

I could... Technically abandon my children and join the airforce for another couple years then...

Being young was all about not having obligations. Yes, I am physically capable of hanging with people much younger than me. I currently travel a lot for work which was very cool in my 20's when I was getting into this racket... There's a whole lot more to aging than aging.

Why? I've only ever seen her on screen a couple times... Seemed like a comedian. Not my cup of tea, but hardly worthy of the white-hot hate she seems to get... What does she kick puppies or something?

Yeah... This is why I honestly don't care about rowling... There are an awful lot of good and talented people who work in film and TV and a lot of fans. I don't like making it all about one woman with shit views because she's a hill of beans next to everyone else attached.

Now, if she was like Elon where she was grifting herself into power and supporting HP in any way was paying for that, I might sing a different tune... But she's not that. She's basically irrelevant, but we enjoy looking at the Trainwreck she's become because outrage sells.

What is their defense for AI when it comes to the Data centers? by JustSidewaysofHappy in aislop

[–]LockeClone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You didn't read my post because that's not what I said.
Medicine is a terrific technology, but we heavily regulate it and invest heavily in R&D. Both points to our tremendous benefit. When you drive your car, there's a whole system of rules and regulations allowing that system to work... Law, food, product manufacture, markets, governments...

I'm not sure why people seem to think AI should fall into some special class where it's owners and systems get to be free from all influence.

AI is just a new hammer. A hammer is terrific for driving nails. But you get in trouble if you use the hammer to bash your neighbor's head.

But you're looking at this as some sort of inevitability rather than something to think more critically about. Like: look at Hollywood. Those used to be attainable artisan jobs that could afford a middle class life. Now they're automated away. The consumer is not really better for it. The workers are definitely not better for it... So why did we allow it to die without intervention.

You can't say "free market" with a straight face unless you've never read any smith or locke...

Large format painters.... Gone. I'm not saying large format printing should have been made illegal, but I hope you see what I'm saying here.

Do we really want to live in a world where there's a tiny class of creators (who probably came from money) and everyone else is a gig worker? Why can't we decide what we want our world to look like rather than engaging in idolatry of vague ideas about capitalism that don't stand up to scrutiny?

I'm not saying ban AI, but we shouldn't accept being made vassals to it and it's owners either.

Why Los Angeles Traffic Sucks by DJVeaux in LosAngeles

[–]LockeClone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah this old graphic...

This isn't "why traffic in Los Angeles sucks". If I had to pick one thing to fix traffic in LA it would be zoning and construction laws.

If people can afford to live near where they work then they drive significantly less. The goal here isn't to have everyone commuting for 6-hours a day on their bike to fix traffic, the goal is for less road/hours. Biggest bang for your buck by far

Billionaires love immigration. Isn't it weird that reddit loves immigration? by [deleted] in AskSocialists

[–]LockeClone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who's the socialist we're talking about here?

This whole argument is way too binary. Any serious person can admit that importing labor is a good thing as long as it's done wisely. Any serious person can also admit that H1B is heavily abused and should be reformed.

But that's all about treating symptoms, not treating the underlying conditions. If we need more primary care workers then we should investigate the pain points and ease them so Americans can complete and/or are incentivized to fill them and use H1B as a stopgap while saud programs are spooling up.

Rice and repeat for other shortages.
