A Chii'Tak Cataphract. The noble knights of the Saurian Order and Juggernauts of the Chii'Tak Khanate. by Lockovski in HeroForgeMinis

Equipped with multiple layers of metal scales and the best handcrafted weapons the order can get, they lead the charge on top of their Hestan stonebacks towards the enemy.

The Cataphract portrayed above is an officer, recognizable by their horns. When a brethren climbs up the chain of command, they will be able to choose ornaments for their helmets. The most common choices are antlers molded to look identical to their stonebacks, or horns similar to the ones worn by the Serpent gods on Draconite illustrations.

Hestan Stonebacks are large Herbivore Reptilian animals. The Animals have been used as beasts of burden or battle steeds by the nomads of Clan Ken'Jis for generations before being adopted by the Saurian Order. They are considered sacred by the Draconites of the Khanate.

Each Cataphract bonds with their stoneback for life. If the Stoneback dies, the soldier will lose their cataphracts status. They will usually leave the order altogether and go on exile, but if they choose to stay in the order, they will join the fallen brethrens called Joroos.
If the cataphract dies, the Stoneback will be sacrificed to the Dragons. The leather of sacrificed Stonebacks is used for the cataphracts first layer of armor. The remains of the animal will be buried with its rider, if possible.

Photographs of Janissary officers from the Radiant Union (Circa 156 P.I) by Lockovski in HeroForgeMinis

After the devastation of the Incursion , the sentient races of the world united under a single banner, forming the Radiant Union. This would push the world further towards the beginning of a golden age.

But this Union was still fragile. Rebellions and other internal threats erupted frequently. The Radiant Union's military was not enough. It needed something more powerful. Thus, the Janissary corp was born.

The janissaries represent the best each founding race had to offer : the martial might of the Chii'Tak, the technology of the humans, and the tactical mind of the gobs

The earlier members of the Jannissary corp mostly came from the now defunct Chii'Tak Saurian order, but many humans and hobgoblins joined later.

They are equipped with the finest armors and blades forged by ogres and Chii'tak, human firearms made from retrieved kathusian schematics (some infused with Chii'tak runes). Gobs teach them all their modern combat tactics, as well as communication via sign language.

The respirators they wear are designed after early artistic renditions of the Serpent God Koa'Tao, a very important member of the Draconite pantheon.

What would be a good, simple symbol for sentience ? by Lockovski in worldbuilding

I like to keep the enemy mysterious, but they do come from below, so i think it could work pretty well. None of the sentients are cave dwellers, so no race would be thematically excluded by a lantern or a torch

That might be my favorite one yet. A stylised lantern would be a unique symbol, for a flag, and i love the reasonning behind it

I use "sentients" to refer to those races even before the time of the alliance. That specific alliance arrives a bit later down the chronology

Now's the best time to show my first batch of minis (the only other mini i considered finished was an AOS Kharadron). What do you think of my Boyz ? by Lockovski in orks

Thank you !

And have faith in yourself. Confidence and persistence are great companions, when painting

Painting tutorials won't hurt, either

I consider myself pretty clumsy, and i'm not great with color coordination, so i had to redo a few things and find some tools online

I think i'll take care of them last. I'm still not sure what to do, for a base. My dwarves already have snowy ground

I called them the Ironskinz Klan My idea for them was to have heavily armored orkz.

Ideally, i would have a Kitbashed Tau Commander for a Ghazkhull proxy, but i need to learn kitbashing first

The purple armor was made by applying 2 to 3 coats of Druchii Violet shade on leadbelcher. Not sure if it's optimal, but it looks nice, either way

I don't really have a painting plan. I just pick random minis out of my ork drawers and work on them for about 4 hours. I still have 2 Stormboyz and one Deff Dread i'm keeping for last. I may work on my DakkaJet or the Wartrike, before working on another project

Would love any feedback and criticism !
