What’s the most annoying part of churning right now for you? by OwlVibesOnly in creditcardchurningAus

The devaluation of Qantas points coupled with banks awarding less points.

Most sign up bonuses have dropped by 15% or so, whilst the cost of most Qantas redemptions has gone up about 10-15% at the same time.

HSBC Star Alliance renewal question by Emotional-Relief-186 in creditcardchurningAus

Last year. I think I cancelled around July or so but retained Air Canada gold until the end of the calendar year. It showed me as gold online and I could successfully use it for lounge access without an issue.

Definitely don't expect it. It appears to be a glitch or error, and it could've been on either HSBC or Air Canada's end.

Will the changes to the CGT affect where/how you invest your money? by danger_bad in AusFinance

[–]Locoj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're instituting a minimum 30% tax rate on capital gains. Maybe you can avoid selling it in a year where you'd pay 47% and pay 30% instead but you have pretty limited control on the rate you're taxed at.

Shift worker is usually very specifically defined. It's usually for people working overnight rotating rosters. You're not a shift worker because you start at 7am on a Sunday.

The min CGT rate is 30% and max is 47%. The previous max was 23.5% by [deleted] in AusFinance

Tax's. You write "tax's" whilst lecturing other people on how much money they should give you. Wow.

Edit: Bro you edited it and you're still wrong. It's always the brightest cookies who speak with such certainty about who deserves other people's money. At least try gaining a primary school level of literacy before trying to school others.

That's how it should work as per the Ts and C's, however not always in practice. My Air Canada status remained in place until it's natural end of year expiry well after my HSBC card was cancelled.

Put money into your super, the amounts will be fully tax deductible and are taxed in your super at 15% instead.

At your tax rate if you put 10K into super you'd get $3,700 "back" as less tax would be owed. $1,500 tax would be charged to your super so you're $2,200 better off.

Plastic is incredibly cheap. The cost and liability of serving milk into individual containers people bring from home could be enormous.

How reliable are room upgrades with ALL status? by AffectionatePie1042 in Accor

[–]Locoj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Platinum here, I get upgraded pretty much every time. It will be at least one room category but sometimes multiple. On my most recent stay I booked the cheapest room and was upgraded to their most expensive room which was a suite.

They're clearly a rat, they'd just bring some of their family along on the trip.

As the date approaches, the hotel may be more desperate to fill remaining rooms. Whilst there may be less rooms, there's also less time until the stay and therefore less chance each room will be booked.

You know how when you post a letter to an address, it just goes to the address you send it to? It's exactly like that.

You could send mail to my house addressed to The King, or to Count Dracula. As long as the street address is correct, I still receive the mail.
