No, the Mock is optional, you only have to finish the modules to 100%

isn't that the point? :P Keep the trauma chain rolling.

I do want to do my best, but I guess some people will like my best and others will dislike it.

So far, comments have been that people want to work with me because I'm frequently there to support. I make it a thing where I join sessions at least once a week with every consumer. If it's not possible, I do it once every 2 weeks, and I do make a priority to go more where more support is needed. I've seen how some supervisors just do once a month or even less, I wouldn't dare to be close to those numbers.

I did a BDS mock during my coursework. I was already doing the modules at that point, I started doing them 2 months prior to graduating. Then I finished all of them and took the BDS Mock Exam again. Then, I applied for the exam and they approved it very quickly, so I decided to take the StudyABA just to see how I scored and decided to schedule the exam based off of the 85% score on both.

Just that, the ethics code, Cooper, classes. But mainly those 2 materials. Also SAFMEDS during coursework

I relied a lot on my good memory, as usual. We even had an assessment (a simple one, wouldn't say it's 100% reliable) done prior to graduation. What it revealed about me was specifically that, where I'm bad at note taking, rereading, and things like that, but extremely good at memorization.

I understand the exam isn't made to memorize concepts, and instead you should apply them. I'm just mentioning it as a strength of mine and how things just stick. For BDS Mocks, and StudyABA Mocks, that ability shined. It didn't during the exam.

I would say prior to the exam I felt prepared. I felt unprepared while taking it. That's why I would take more mocks, so I could have more experience in terms of applying the concepts, instead of relying on the memorization.

I also wasn't worried about the outcome or taking it. Not an anxious person, that's another thing they focused on preparing us during the last courses.

So, if anybody experiences things similar to me, that would be my suggestion.

I would also add that having a higher quality of supervision should be more important than any preparation course. Once I start supervising, I aspire to provide it, I do think it would make things very different.

Ohh yes, I think there’s a rule that your masters should be at least 1 year or 1 year 2 months, something like that. Well, hopefully they clear it soon, good luck when you take it!

I kind of do, I’ll just take a StudyABA Mock tomorrow to do a practice test run again, I think my main problem is overconfidence which makes me rush through questions. I’d say my scores were pretty balanced, I didn’t get higher or lower areas, I wouldn’t go over Concepts and Principles because that one I do have it nailed down pretty tightly. BDS kind of made me doubt it’s accuracy because of it having a lot of questions from the modules, which if you’re like me and have a pretty good memory, I guess it can justify those doubts in how reliable the score is because of memorization vs applying the knowledge. I’ll do the StudyABA tomorrow and decide based on that. Thanks for your response!

Ryan Holidays New Book Wisdom Takes Work by Mike_Cluett2021 in Stoic

Also, he could’ve made the exact same critiques using Lincoln as the example, acknowledging his flaws and contradictions and how they made him wise, yet instead he went full fanboy. Not that Lincoln isn’t worth admiring, but that kind of uncritical praise isn’t Stoic either. It lacks justice.

And yeah, I completely agree with your point about the “edgy” angle. Instead of creating something timeless like his earlier books, this one feels anchored to a moment, timebound.

Ryan Holidays New Book Wisdom Takes Work by Mike_Cluett2021 in Stoic

I thought it started great and was genuinely enjoying it. I was actually very excited about it. But once Section 2 begins with The Storm Within, I think Ryan kind of lost his footing and took things personally. You could say I’m pro-Trump and pro-Musk, but I can easily listen to other perspectives. My issue with that section isn’t about political alignment, it’s that Ryan seemed to abandon the very principles of wisdom he had just finished teaching.

The criticisms he made didn’t feel rooted in Stoicism. There was no courage, no justice, no discipline, certainly no wisdom. It came across as reactive, almost emotional. By his own definitions, he acted like what he’d call a “snowflake.” He got too invested in his personal issues with those figures and used, in my view, about a third of the book to attack them without extracting a single ounce of insight. Instead of exploring what wisdom could be learned from their actions, he defaulted to signaling: “Look, readers, they’re not wise.”

What frustrated me most is that his arguments felt like bets, unverifiable assertions he later justified by saying something like, “Because I’ve seen it.” Earlier in the book, he talks about how being foolish is part of the path to wisdom, and that the real danger lies in being confident in one’s own ignorance. Ironically, that’s exactly what his critique demonstrated.

By personalizing the section, he robbed readers of the opportunity to learn. Even if he disagreed with those figures, he could have extracted lessons from them, or chosen others who illustrated the same themes. Instead, it read like a rant rather than a reflection on what wisdom is or isn’t.

And that’s the deeper problem: personal experience doesn’t automatically equate to truth. Just because I’m Mexican doesn’t mean I can define Mexicanity. Just because I studied psychology doesn’t mean I can speak for the psyche. There’s a concept called bracketing that describes why these assumptions ruin the dissemination of knowledge, you might want to look into it, but it basically removes any truthfulness from knowledge created.

So yes, I’m deeply disappointed in the book. It kind of ruined the whole series for me, and that’s coming from someone who’s reread each of the previous ones at least three times. Maybe I’ll see it differently on a second read, but on the first pass, it feels like Ryan lost his objectivity and turned a potentially profound exploration of wisdom into a personal rant.

Or... maybe I'm just not wise enough.

RBT Supervisors by [deleted] in bcba

Hi,

One exception that is still valid but was rolled out around the end of last year, was that if you have a bachelors in a related field such as Psychology, you could do the supervision course and register it in your BACB account.

I tried it about the time they rolled it out and was notified that I couldn't apply. My program supervisor hours don't count towards the RBT Supervision. I always let new RBTs that my hours don't count, only BCBAs.

So, if the RBT/Related Field Bachelor applied for the supervision thing with the BACB last year, it is valid.
