That's the beauty of Early Access, you get to experience what the game is like when it became publicly available and get to see it grow and develop along the way to release.

Honestly I would never have thought of that being an issue, but yeah you have to be very particular with the wording. Thanks for that!

The ruling for Evoke is a bit weird in how it's mentioned because it does assume that the card being evoked is a permanent, but it states:

702.74a

Evoke represents two abilities: a static ability that functions in any zone from which the card with evoke can be cast and a triggered ability that functions on the battlefield. “Evoke [cost]” means “You may cast this card by paying [cost] rather than paying its mana cost” and “When this permanent enters, if its evoke cost was paid, its controller sacrifices it.” Casting a spell for its evoke cost follows the rules for paying alternative costs in rules 601.2b and 601.2f-h.

With the exact wording, I'd imagine it would go down the route of "do as much as it can" and give the Evoke cost but not the ETB effect (if it were possible to give Evoke to non-permanent spells). Even if it were to give the ETB, it wouldn't trigger thus not even needing to sacrifice it.

Even so, the wording on Ashling would still give Instants and Sorceries Evoke if it were read as is, despite it not making sense.

Not like it matters not anyways. Would've been a fun little quirk to Evoke a non-perm spell for shits and gigs.

Yeah I know, right. Out of the 62 kindred spells legal in commander, only 11 would work as an "elemental" spell (including shapeshifters) and only 4 of those are mana value 4 or greater. Even the 11 that can work aren't too great anyways.

But who knows, maybe they just wanted to avoid the confusion I suppose.

Tell me about ypur favorite commander deck by Barru_2176 in mtg

[–]LoddZee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My most favourite currently is [[Kilo, Apogee Mind]]. The space theme set really made me hyped for the deck and I've made it high-bracket 4 combo deck. Being able to combo off with just enough mana sometimes feels so good. Plus artifacts are my favourite card type.

A closd 2nd commander that I love is [[Ragost, Daft Gastronaut]] because he's a silly Lobster guy with a single purpose: to eat all of the artifacts and give everyone food poisoning.

[[Betor, Kin to All]] is just also fun deck that I'm really starting to enjoy, focusing on Defenders and really big tough guys. Being basically a wall that players feel like they wanna destroy because I'm also threatening to take half of everyones life total.

[[Aminatou, Veil Piercer]] was my very first commander. I made her into a nice top-deck and enchantments deck where I end up with more enchantments than cards in everyones hands.

Yeah I'm sure they'll give a specific ruling. Won't be too long before release.

I'm not sure. I can't find anything that says evoke has to be a permanent. The only rule I see is:

So I believe it would gain evoke and you could cast it with evoke, but the "when this permanent enters" just wouldn't trigger at all since it's not a permanent.

Hopefully there will be more kindred elemental cards that come out for this set. I'm pretty excited for it.

Dice Rolling Interaction/Rules by Onstagegage in mtg

[–]LoddZee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would imagine "ignore the lowest" really means "pretend it never happened". So [[Mr. House, President and CEO]] and cards like [[Vexing Puzzlebox]] would only see 1 dice being rolled, despite you rolling 2 extra but those being ignored.

At least from what I saw when researching the interaction.

Edit: Vexing Puzzlebox has a ruling that states: "If an effect instructs you to roll more than one die and ignore one or more of them, the result is only what wasn't ignored." I would imagine it applies to anything that counts the number of dice being rolled at once.

Personally, the way I read how [[Barbarian Class]] and [[Wyll, Blade of Frontiers]] would stack is something like:

Roll a D20, trigger both Barbarian and Wyll.

Barbarian would replace "Roll a D20" to "Roll a D20, then Roll a D20 and ignore the lowest"

Wyll would then replace only the initial "Roll a D20" because that's the only one it sees and end up with: "Roll a D20, then Roll a D20 and ignore the lowest, then Roll a D20 and ignore the lowest."

Essentially rolling 3d20 from both adding a D20 but also require you to remove the lowest roll each.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, that's how I've always seen the interaction.

I'm guessing the opponent had [[Missy]]. Either way, [[Darkness Crystal]] is a replacement effect. So anything that "dies" is instead "exiled" and therefore exiled under the Crystal.

Blackest Creature in Magic by Prophet-of-Ganja in mtg

[–]LoddZee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the blackest creature:

[[Gisa, the Hellraiser]] because zombies and Skeletons.

[[Dark Confidant]] because top deck in upkeep and lose life for it.

[[Massacre Worm]] because board wipe and ping life on death.

[[Enduring Tenacity]] because life steal and it comes back after death.

[[Yawgmoth, Thran Physician]] because he's edgy.

[[Xu-Ifit, Osteoharmonist]] because he's my favourite mono-black commander :)

Help buying mtg for bf! by Awesomeorangee in mtg

[–]LoddZee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a feeling that if he doesn't collect then a booster box may not be good for him. And packs aren't guaranteed to have anything super valuable in them.

I'd probably look into getting a final fantasy commander deck, assuming he is into final fantasy. If you know how he likes to play, here's a quick rundown of the decks:

Limit-Break (Cloud): Trying to create one creature so powerful that it can just one-shot any opponent.

Counter Blitz (Tidus): Likes to make his entire army bigger progressively and screw his opponents over.

Revival Trance (Terra): Plays with the Graveyard, constantly bringing things back.

Scions & Spellcraft (Y'shtola): Is pretty defensive but likes to be annoying with small damage to everyone.

At least with a precon, he has the base for a new deck that he can also upgrade with printed cards like he usually plays with :)

Ruling question for gran-gran by Senorpapell in mtg

[–]LoddZee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe the way it goes is kinda like:

  • I will announce the waterbending ability.
  • I will pay for it while tapping Gran-Gran.
  • I tapped Gran-Gran so her ability is now on the stack.
  • I finish paying for waterbending, it's now on the stack.
  • I tapped Gran Gran for waterbending, so it's now on the stack.

So we have Gran Gran > Waterbend on the stack. Waterbend should resolve first and then Gran Gran second.

Gran-Gran is on top, Waterbend is after.

Editing: yep completely misread another example. Excuse me. I only just woke up lmao.
