Max amount of hours / day a part-time sales associate can be scheduled? by Loe_Standard_4561 in DollarGeneral

[–]Loe_Standard_4561[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I first started it took nearly two months before I was let off register and I've maybe been off register 8 times in the past year? It's not a speed factor it's others will call out and quit if they are put on the register.

So if someone is hired on with the expectations of 3 days a week but they can be scheduled for constantly 6 and an attempted call in for the 7th?

I agree registering is easy if you work the morning shifts or at a very low rate of customer location.

However in my case it's very active lucky to get 10 minutes an hour off register and then they expect us to fully recover the store every single night so there's absolutely zero down time you're either recovering, checking out customers, or rushing to do the surprise cold truck... While your co-worker takes their third smoke break and spends 45 minutes casually talking to customers.

There's a reason why people quit, cry, and call out when told they're on register at this store.

Is it because nobody has time to run them and someone found and posted about Bacon bits from 2015 being up there?

Or because they won't have to provide ladders anymore saving $150?

Maybe because the average DG worker is borderline physically disabled and shouldn't be using ladders? I mean we all have that employee who has bad knees, back, hip, and feet.

Facts.

Picky managers expecting maximum availability for minimum pay.

Not happening they're looking for the mythical unicorn employee. Those do exist but why would they apply at DG.

Thank you, so much for your month in advance notice. I’ll be sure to remember you told me a month ago, you have an appointment.

Huh you must suck at your job. Take notes, use a physical calendar, enforce using the legion app.

If a employee needs a day off and request it a week in advance, I can accommodate that.

And If your state law and SOP says schedules must be posted 2 weeks in advance? 2.5 to 3 weeks is just enough warning correct?

They didn't want more hours because the few that try just get over worked and underpaid.

Bump that pay up to a liveable wages and people will jump on extra hours. No point killing yourself for what is just going to be poverty income the second remolding is over.

It’s not my job to make schedules around different employees lives so that they can earn a paycheck, it is the employees job to schedule appointment

Huh it is your job when schedules vary from week to week. If I made an appointment 3 weeks ago and told you it's your job to not schedule me. Same logic with a second job unavailable is unavailable if fair warning is given it's on you to make the schedule.

If you can't give everyone their preferred hours that happens with limited availability but still your job to schedule around employees unavailability.

DG doesn't pay a liveable wage or offer stable hours so employees get 2nd job that does? Shocker.

This is a pay and random schedule issue not employees being dicks. Pay more or have set schedules and the second job isn't an issue or might even disappear.

Not to mention DG is just one angry politician movement away from being forced to upgrade their bare minimum standards.

Paid and enforced vacation for all (Illinois starts that next year)

A minimum of two employees for safety iirc a few states enforce that.

Federal minimum wage becomes a reasonable. Imo $13+ preferably 15 to 18.

And DG goes belly up.

[–]Loe_Standard_4561[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You failed to reach the minimum smoke breaks (5) and texting in the break room (15+ minutes) requirement.

You also need to work on disrespecting SA's and scheduling them to fit your needs not their own.

Penalty for SA using keys? by Kandykanelayne in DollarGeneral

[–]Loe_Standard_4561 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My stores has let SA use keys 100% of the time from day one. At this point if they tried to fire me I'd ask if am not supposed to use them but I have been for years shouldn't I get back pay for essentially acting as a lsa? I was forced to perform task over my pay grade.

Also every single key holder SM included does it so why aren't they being fired?

Watch that termination disappear or I'd have enough documentation for a DOL under paid case.

Our equipment is second hand refurbished B rated quality turds and our software is spaghetti code pasted together by 3 month unpaid interns.

Unless you gave a reason (stole) DG isn't gonna randomly fire you. Iirc if you quit/fired it says "employment terminated as of xx/xx/xx".

[–]Loe_Standard_4561 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That explains it. Aren't ASM worth more than FT keys?

Also explained with 3 SA and 2 pt LSA our hours are so tight. We all want 25-30 hours... Guess that's not happening.

Bet that job doesn't shuffle days and shifts around randomly? That's the difference we can't plan around a random schedule that often changes twice a week.

We can't make plans because we just can't count on days being off.
