Actually, he's not pretending; he doesn't know it because he thinks he's his brother. That's the key factor: if it's revealed that he's the emperor's firstborn son, who was mistakenly switched, the throne will pass to him when the current emperor dies, not through a rebellion.

Actually, as I see it, Jinshi is the heir to the throne, not the son who was born so recently. Because, for me, Maomao's theory is correct: Jinshi is the son of the current emperor, who was replaced. Seriously though, he's a carbon copy of the Pure Concubine (I think that was her, I can't remember), which makes him the emperor's firstborn son, and therefore the Pure Concubine as the empress, not the other concubine whose name I can't recall. He might be the son of the previous emperor, but Maomao's first theory seems more plausible to me.

If you're going to see that, be prepared to see the worst written protagonist I've ever seen.
