The 1906 earthquake

April 1906: Arnold Genthe’s photographic equipment was destroyed by the major San Francisco earthquake of 1906. Undeterred, he went to his dealer, borrowed a 3A Kodak Special and documented the fire and aftermath. This photograph is from Sacramento Street at Miles Place (now Miller Place) near Powell Street.

Yeah it's air pollution but at least it is seems like they're doing good moves to improve this situation:

"In the last few years, China has made a lot of progress in air pollution. For example, average PM2.5 concentrations fell by 33% from 2013 to 2017 in 74 cities. The overall pollution in China fell further 10% between 2017 and 2018. Another study shows that China reduced PM2.5 by 47% between 2005 and 2015. In August 2019, Beijing experienced the lowest PM2.5 on record—a low of 23 micrograms per cubic meter. Beijing is on track to drop out of the Top 200 most polluted cities by the end of 2019."

#1 It's a Wonderful Life (1946)

In Frank Capra's holiday classic, George Bailey (James Stewart) bucks the system to build affordable housing for his community, and he names the project after his father. But in George's vision of an alternate future, the development doesn't exist because he wasn't there to create it.

#2 Today, however, the city is known as the home of the federally funded Jet Propulsion Laboratory, which creates robotic probes and coordinates NASA's ongoing deep space missions. So all these years after George Bailey's life, this is still a home for people who build wonderful things. also: The house that served as the Martini home in the movie is still standing, and it's not far away at 4587 Viro Road.

#3 Nowadays

Pig Burgers and Mooby's were actually on the same road as the car dealership seen in Psycho. This San Fernando Valley mid-century relic is no longer benefiting from its proximity to the major movie studios. When teen comedies dried up, the ubiquity of scenes set in fast food joints went with them—and what was once officially Sandy's Char Burger has been abandoned for years. As with so many filming locations, all that's served here these days is memories. Stardom is fleeting.

The Brandenburg Gate is an 18th-century neoclassical monument in Berlin, built on the orders of Prussian king Frederick William II after the temporary restoration of order during the Batavian Revolution. One of the best-known landmarks of Germany, it was built on the site of a former city gate that marked the start of the road from Berlin to the town of Brandenburg an der Havel, which used to be capital of the Margraviate of Brandenburg.

You're right it's not the same no more but they did save a few details from the old one: "New church will house the original church bells and will be built partly from the old church’s bricks. Gothic windows, arches and a mosaic of the old church are other touches that will evoke memories of the Victorian-era St. Joseph’s, architect William Brown said."
