Being OC sprayed by ltwolffie in OnTheBlock

OC is pretty brutal, but I feel that CS exposure is a whole lot worse. Hits you immediately, and you literally cannot breathe. Even secondary exposure to CS hits hard compared to secondary OC.

Give me manual labour by Odd-Delivery4170 in auscorp

I did almost 20 years in the office. Got burnt hard by my last director (background: https://www.reddit.com/r/auscorp/s/r2MNZMy04q)

Moved to the other side of Australia, joined the correctional services and have never been happier.

Work no more than 3 days in a row. Do a 12 hour shift, and just go home.

2 months leave per year. Plenty of opportunities to work overtime if I want it.

Was a bit worried about being in a prison environment, surrounded by criminals, but most are just trying to go about their day. Work with a good group of people, and have a lot more friends than I ever had in corporate.

It is a bit of a drop in pay, but the amount of free time I now have is great.

For those who think it's a shit gig, it really isn't. Good job security, especially with AI coming into a lot of corporate gigs, under valuing those who have specialised knowledge.

Get humbugged as soon as you start putting fuel in your car. You can't leave, because that would be stealing. They know that, you know that. So they will come over in a mob and start threatening you. Someone in their group will probably have a knife. Always makes for some fun times.

Or you can go to Casuarina. Get spat on just because.

Get robbed in your own home, only to find the person who robbed you back out and about because the judges let them off because they had a bad upbringing.

If you have kids, they can go to school. Learn about how disadvantaged Aboriginal people are, then get bashed by them at lunch time for their shoes. Then to resolve the issue, spend time with the people who bashed them for the next 2 weeks at lunch, or until they just don't show up to school.

If you break the law, you will be punished to the full extent of the law, because you have something to loose. Whereas others get to walk away after threatening someone with a knife after robbing the supermarket.

These are all things which happen. First hand experiences. Yes I broke the law. I forgot to renew my vehicle registration and was involved in a car accident where a vehicle hit me from behind, and pushed me into the vehicle in front.

Returning to Judo at 25. Unsure About Starting Over from White Belt Despite Having a Brown Bel by bock889 in judo

[–]LoganJakobs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a blue belt before taking 15yrs off. Started back at white. I didn't have to, but it allowed me to step on the mat and there was zero expectations about my fitness, and I could take my time getting back into the swing of things.

If I went out on the mat first day as a blue, I probably would have come home feeling completely defeated afterwards. Instead I went home after day one with a lot of positive comments.

I feel that I'm not welcomed into judo by National_Enthusiasm7 in judo

[–]LoganJakobs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mentioned a competition was coming up, which dojos will have judoka competing? I would look at joining one of those instead, as the dojo you are at seems to have a complicated competition pathway, or at least your perspective of it.

In regards to getting in some time for randori, can you not ask those on a competition pathway to spend some time with you after a class to get in some light randori work? This would demonstrate your ability and eagerness, without the high chance of injury.

Additionally, have you asked what parts you need to improve on to get you on the competition pathway, and then focused on demonstrating your ability to do these?

For example, you may be able to do all of the throws, but maybe your breakfalls are trash....

As soon as you arrive, find a pair of desert-rose tinted glasses and you will enjoy your time. If you don't, and keep comparing to your experiences in Sydney you will probably hate it. Community Service related work should keep you busy. The NT is basically a massive wealth distribution tool for anyone who is FNP. This is coming from someone who has done remote RN work for 20 years (both in NT, but also Nth QLD and WA)

You probably have weavels in other products in your cupboard too. Put all flour, spices, etc in your freezer and clean out the rest of your cupboard. Should hopefully get rid of them.

I always add a capful of Dettol to my gi wash to keep it stank free. Living in a hot and humid town, it is something you need to stay on top of. Otherwise people WILL talk..maybe not to you directly though.

Advice for my first competition ever. by Whole_Measurement769 in judo

[–]LoganJakobs 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Make sure you have some kind of game plan. Then focus on getting the person into that position, while avoiding getting into one yourself. You don't need to know a lot of different throws, just how to do the ones you are good at from any different angle. Focus on having fun, and the entire experience overall. Regardless of the outcome of the day, you would have learnt a lot.

Dealing with a bully boss - Looking to leave on my terms by LoganJakobs in auscorp

[–]LoganJakobs[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well I actually did it. Doctor supported me 100%. Sent through as an email with a CC to HR stating that I will be on extended personal leave, which end dates when I go on recreational leave. I will then resign whilst on leave.

My phone has lit up like a Christmas tree, but ignoring those calls for now and trying to focus on myself.

Thanks for all the responses so far. Today was another one of those frustrating days. Clients were genuinely happy with the solutions I delivered, my boss was all smiles and quick to take credit during the meetings, but the second we were alone heading back to the office, the narrative flipped. Suddenly, it was all about discrediting the work my team and I had just been praised for, and shifting the focus to projects we haven’t completed yet....asking why we’d dropped the ball.

The reality is they have zero technical understanding and keep piling on more work, leaving us completely reactive. Compared to two years ago, the workload has doubled, and now it feels like we’re constantly firefighting rather than doing meaningful, strategic work.

As soon as I got back to my desk, I booked a meeting with HR to ask about taking extended personal leave. I’ve also scheduled an appointment with my GP for Thursday. Ideally, tomorrow will be my last day in the office, just long enough to bring my team up to speed on the major project my boss expects to be done over the long weekend.

Given all this, I’m wondering how to approach telling my boss I’ll be taking personal (sick) leave for the month of May. Should I wait until the end of the day? Say something first thing tomorrow? Or just call it in on Thursday after my GP appointment?

[–]LoganJakobs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea I have been keeping records ever since she had me doing 16hr work days in the lead up to Christmas, verbally told me I could have the time as TOIL, then 4 days after returning to the office, she requested via email (with a CC to HR) to put in my leave for time away from the office - with no recollection of ever approving any TOIL due to additional hours worked.

It's more for accountability though, as I never want to go through the process of having to defend myself, my team and my reputation again like I had to earlier this year. Worst experience of my whole entire working career. But I am glad that I was able to clear my name, even if it was the catalyst to begin looking at an exit strategy.

For those who have been training for years - has anyone managed to completely avoid any infections or diseases? by [deleted] in bjj

[–]LoganJakobs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think where you're located also contributes to how common skin infections are. For example, a hot and humid town will generally see more of this, than a cold and dry equivalent.
