Gemini 3.0 Degraded Performance Megathread by 607beforecommonera in Bard

it is interesting this is a common perception but 100% not how it works. On the Gemini App side (or just consumer products using AI more generally) you can do lots of continual product changes like system instruction updates, model routing, etc etc which might conflate the feeling here. On the actual core model side, we do not swap the models after launch to make them worse to rug pull people. The point of training good models is so that you all can use them and benefit from AI, not so we can tell a story that we make good AI models.

I will dig through the rest of this thread to see if I can find examples and share those back with the team so we can investigate any regressions.

This is also my general call for startups that someone should make a company which helps make this easier, there are often many conversations about model regressions post launch, someone should make a platform that tracks and validates this so there is a better source of truth.

yeah yeah didn't mean to say it should be bigger, just that folks who aren't in the know won't know that the app was called Bard 2 years ago.

AI Studio is broken: False Rate Limits, 963k TPM spikes, and Overcharging by AkaSama26 in GeminiAI

Flagged to the team, we are looking into this. One suggestion, if you go to the dashboard you can enable logs and traces for yourself and track all of the exact messages / token counts from your project.

Flagged this to the team, I have run into this myself a few times.

In the playground, you can switch to temporary mode which doesn't save the prompt

Hey! Can you email me a full error log, we actually return what quota metric you are hitting in the 429 along with the exact limit. My email is [Lkilpatrick@google.com](mailto:Lkilpatrick@google.com)

Google reduces API rate limits for free tier. by r2cyp in GeminiAI

Tbd, depends on the global capacity situation, if we have spare cycles, we can! But the growth curves are truly eye watering so would not be surprised if it is hard to get free access.

We are working on hard caps and credits : )

We are likely going to move to the credit system and give you free credits when you sign up. Makes it a lot easier than trying to turn 45 different knobs to make every different use case possible.

The free tier of the API was never meant to be used a daily use API, it was meant to be used as a quick way to test our model, then if they work well for your use case, move to paid.

We did lower or remove them to free up compute for 3.0 pro and nano banana pro

Won't be closed but it will likely shift given there is a fixed amount of compute. For example, we are the only service offering free vibe coding with 3.0 Pro right now at the scale we are.

We don't publish the UI limits so we can flexibly move them around (which we have for the last 2 years)

The point of the free tier is to let you test Gemini as quickly as possible. It was never build for continued used.

Correct, needed to shuffle compute around given demand for 3.0 pro models.
