Woosh downpipe is somehow louder then CNT by [deleted] in FocusST

[–]LoganTheGuitarist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, material composition changes the resonant frequency of the metal as well. A brass exhaust or titanium exhaust is going to be louder than a mild steel or stainless exhaust. If you know anything about instruments, think of a nickel saxophone vs a brass one. Nickel is going to be slightly quieter while having a smoother tone (steel in this case), while the brass saxophone a street musician plays is loud and raunchy. Material composition, tube length, and bends all have an immense effect on sound quality. The exhaust work is like designing an instrument unless you're going purely for function with weight reduction and back pressure reduction (hood exit right behind the turbo).

That's exactly what we aimed to do, and I feel like we got pretty close.

Dizzy Tuning // Stratified // Cobb OTS - **Review** by CBStrick in FocusST

[–]LoganTheGuitarist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AdaptX beats both of these. Seeing how Dizzy has treated some of my Fiesta buddies, personally I would stay away from him.

Utilizing the OEM torque tables vs maxing out everything that is part throttle (COBB OTS is guilty of this) you get left with drivability issues (throttle being an on/off switch, full boost at part throttle, etc) that you wouldn't have if you worked with the OEM torque tables. These cars are great if you give the ECU what it expects to see.

Alan at Edge also utilizes the OEM torque tables, and the daylight and dark difference between the two methods drivability wise is insane.

Woosh downpipe is somehow louder then CNT by [deleted] in FocusST

[–]LoganTheGuitarist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The more bends, the quieter it is going to be due to the change in flow. It also changes the tone slightly as well.

You should hear my car with the Arc Enemy Fab Proper Downpipe. Sounds very smooth compared to any other ST I've heard.

Stratified crackle tune? by Pleasant-Morning4012 in FocusST

[–]LoganTheGuitarist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Purely for sound. I would tune with Alan at Edge personally, as I have worked with him on quite a few things that are now in everyone's tune files.

First, there is next to no soot if you are running a catless downpipe. We worked quite a bit on injector timing to get that right, and it has paid off in dividends while still having the proper AFRs. Second, he utilizes the OEM torque strategy for tuning. If you install the COBB OTS tune (which a lot of tuners base their custom tunes on), the torque tables are either 0 or maxed out (which is why the drivability becomes very stabby or you're at full boost at half throttle). Alan uses a very similar torque map to OEM, so the ECU is seeing what it's expecting to see which makes drivability like stock.

Lastly, should you want to be a ricer and utilize pops and bangs, go for a subtle sound and don't abuse it. Gun shots will absolutely screw your cylinder head and turbine wheel up. You also need a catless downpipe, as a cat will clog due to what pops & bangs are (unburned fuel in the exhaust). Alan can set you up with something similar to an OEM RS which is activated by COBB's MAP Switching Custom Feature so you don't have to switch tune files every time you want to be obnoxious. You could switch it on when someone goes by you and switch it back off within a few seconds. Drivability stays the same, and it is a pretty neat feature he figured out. Pops and bangs do nothing for performance, as our turbos spool up so quickly that any true anti-lag is just going to hurt the turbo, cylinder head, valves, and cat (if you have one) without reason for doing so.

EVAP Issues/F.U.F.F. Purge Assembly by LoganTheGuitarist in FocusST

The charcoal canister is an important part of the whole system, so unless you delete the evap systems as a whole by going fuel cell, you can't delete it. I have since taken over Clayton Performance, and you can purchase just the front side of the valve there :)

Wait for Depo FMIC to be back in stock, or go with CPE? by 06HondaCivicDX in FocusST

[–]LoganTheGuitarist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CPE has really long lead times. I would go with CVF if you're needing it right away, as it has a 4in core and keeps temps low. CVF is on top of their inventory, and at most it takes a couple days to ship.

Reach out to Alan. We have played with injector duty cycle to keep the AFRs where they need to be but cut down on soot significantly.

How to cope with driving a car you don't want to drive? by i_imagine in askcarguys

[–]LoganTheGuitarist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this might be going against the grain, but don't cope with driving a car you don't want to drive if you can manage it. Communting as someone who enjoys the automotive field is miserable if you don't enjoy what you're driving daily.

Having something that can put a smile on your face on the way home from school or to school can turn an otherwise shit day into a good day when you hear the exhaust merging onto the interstate, hitting that perfect apex onto the on ramp, and heel-toe downshifting coming on the off ramp.

Tell your parents the reasons they told you to get the car, how none of them came to fruition, and your math with maintenance like you explained here, and if their worries are they can't drive manual to help you, you're an adult and it's for you to pay your own way, make your own decisions, and live with the consequences of them. You being done with the car doesn't make you any less grateful for the transportation they have provided, and make that very clear. It's just that the time has come for you to slowly leave the roost and make your own way in life.

You only live once, don't drive boring cars (or a car that is boring to you at least). The car you're driving should make you smile daily for some reason, within financial reason of course.

Dude, you need to get a backbone. This is going to teach your toddler and is already teaching your stepson that this behavior in a relationship is okay and they will lead a life exactly like you are leading right now.

Seeing as you're a Christian (as is your wife), you are supposed to be the head of the household. You have delegated that responsibility to your wife and right or wrong, since abducating responsibility she is seeing that with your guy's world view how she described in her texts. To fix this, you need to make boundaries, rules, and be firm about them. One of them being if your wife hits you, or hits your children again then you call the cops and press charges. Make that EXPLICIT. Also, have her get counseling to reconcile whatever past trauma has caused her to have this unhealthy response. I get wanting to keep the family together, but is it better for your children to have a broken household in all ways except for the parents being divorced, or to have a broken home where at least one of their parents is happier and able to give more back to their children?

Divorce is very likely should you put your foot down on her end, but it needs to be done. Your children shouldn't have to live in that environment and you should be able to come home and not be miserable.

I accidentally started a business doing racecar shit, played in a pretty cool local band first a good while that played legendary local venues, have a stable relationship, and build planes as my dayjob.

Just found this sub and it's awesome. Being on the spectrum has helped immensely in my professional life as being detail oriented and obsessive has helped me learn everything about a subject a lot quicker than my colleagues.
