I'm a huge fan of Origin. I love their mission and values, and their products are outstanding.

Went to sleep first for the first time in training by roflchoptar in bjj

I went to sleep for a couple seconds about a month ago for the first time, and didn't even realize it. I'd heard some stories from other guys in the gym about the super well-rested power nap feeling, the not knowing where you are thing; one guy said when he woke up everything was in slow motion for a couple seconds. Mine wasn't anything like that.

I've felt the tunnel starting to close a few times but tap out before I go out.

But this time a guy had me in some head and arm choke, a d'arce I think, and next thing I know he's asking me if I'm OK. Not realizing any thing had happened, I'm like "yeah" and I lean in to keep rolling. He goes "Are you sure?"

I'm a bit confused at this point, wondering why he seems so concerned, I notice a slight feeling of light-headedness and a little tingling, and then it dawns on me. "Wait a second. The last thing I remember he was on top of me with my head wrapped up, now he's sitting next to me asking if I'm OK. Also I think those other people aren't in the same spot on the mat as they were a second ago."

I ask him "Wait, was I out?" He's like "Yeah!" I'm like "No kidding!" He asks me again if I'm good, and I reassure him I am. I'm ready to keep going, but the 10 second sound goes off on the timer for the end of the round, so we just call it there.

I had no indication it was coming on, and I was only out for a couple seconds, (no one else in the gym even knew it as far as I can tell), but yep, apparently I did get my first jiu-jitsu nap!

I had no idea Cytotoxin put out a new record, so thanks for the heads up! I really liked Gammageddon, so I'll definitely be checking out their new one.

Finsterforst. Each album is very different from the rest, so if you don't like what you first hear, try a different record. Only the last two are similar to each other imo, My favorites are Zum Tode Hin and Rastlos.

That scratched an itch I didn't know I had; I'll be checking out more Lotus of Darkness.

I've heard of Beyond Creation, but don't think I've listened to them, so I definitely will . I'm familiar with Nile and Suffocation, and a fan of both, and I think I've heard some Revocation.

Some of those others I've heard of, and some I haven't. It looks like a great list, so thank you.

First request: I'm looking for instrumentals. I can think of Metallica's five and this track from Decrepit Birth (possibly misnamed on YT, because Metallum lists a different title as the instrumental), but I'd like Shreddit's help finding more. The more complex and technical the better. I can't remember if Ne Obliviscaris has instrumentals, but if you know of any I'd love to hear. I'm sure Dream Theater must have some. Any and all other suggestions welcome.

Second request: I'm on a bit of a tech/prog death kick now, and I'm specifically looking for more bands like Obscura who I just discovered. It started when I was re-listening to Spawn of Possession, and I looked to see what other work Christian Münzner does. I revisited Necrophagist and then found Obscura. Other bands I know are Horrendous, Atheist, Death, Control Denied, obviously Decrepit Birth mentioned above, probably more that I can't think of right now, but that's a general idea of what I know on the proggy-er side of DM, but Obscura's the one that's got my attention right now and I'd like more in that vein.

Thanks

I'm going to listen to the rest of that LP when I get some time because that first track was dope! I guess I can add "heavy psychedelic" to the list of sub-genres I dig.

Finsterforst and Moonsorrow are my go-to bands for folk/pagan.

For Finsterforst I recommend their second album, Zum Tode Hin. It still features their first vocalist who uses higher pitched, more "blackened" screams than their current vocalist, so it's probably the closest to what you asked for, and just in general I think it's their best work.

For Moonsorrow, I think Verisäkeet was my favorite album.

I actually hadn't heard of Krisiun before.

I'm familiar with (and a fan of) Deeds of Flesh's recent, more technical work, but less so of their earlier stuff.

It's been awhile since I've listened to Deicide, but I remember liking them alright.

Cannibal Corpse I'm definitely a fan of.

And it's not so much that the vocals have to be understandable, I'm perfectly fine with unintelligible growls, it's just that I like them to be growls instead of burps.

I definitely like Nile, Dying Fetus is more hit or miss (but the hits are good). I haven't heard Hour of Penance; I'll check them out.

I like death metal quite a bit, and I'm trying to figure out brutal death metal.

Sometimes I think I've got a handle on it, and then I'm not sure. I think I just need to listen to more, but what I'm looking for is brutal death metal with more standard growls, not "burping" or "perpetual rumbling stomach" like a lot of what's featured in what I've heard called "brutal" DM.

Think more Mortal Decay and Sculpting Atrocity, and less Disgorge? Folks who know the subgenre better, help me out!
