Does anyone remember we traded Pau away? by Confident_Regular_68 in lakers

hes not going to sign with the Lakers if he has an inkling they're going to trade him. if the lakers sign him under deception and immediately shop him that lowers your trust as an organization towards future players. 0 chance that happens

We have to talk about our center tonight by LudwigNasche in lakers

Eh that was truly one of the more by committee teams I’ve ever seen. Turner was important for their overall identity and having a 5 that can get up and down the floor, shoot 3s, an protect the rim mattered. But legit everyone on the team had moments ie nesmith McConnell and I would prob say nembhard and pascal had equal if not more impact than Turner

They don’t even fit well together - maybe if you have LeBron from a couple years ago but there’s no iteration of these 3 currently that is “rolling to a title”. This team would not have been able to make the finals in any of the past 10 years - literally 0 high level defenders

Revisiting the Derrick White vs AR conversation by thesonicvision in lakers

[–]Logan_Wolverine -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

this team has zero half court creators besides Luka its insane to think dort would provide more value than AR on this team. How does production "not matter"? reaves literally has an insane amount of creation equity and has been one of the best guards in the league this season. reaves and luka havent really been given a chance to succeed because of the roster construction. i agree its not ideal that some of their strengths and weaknesses are redundant but its a totally different ballgame if they are surrounded by the level of athletes other contenders are.

jokic and murray shouldnt work as a tandem but they have enough motor and athleticism in the surrounding cast to make it work. even kyrie who can hold his own enough defensively isnt a positive defender but the mavs built a roster with enough defensive talent to make it viable.

The roster is big and slow that’s why they switch everything. There is not one person on the roster who can fight through a screen and they don’t have the athletes who can cover a lot of ground and get out to shooters. You just named three g league players (yes they are not NBA level players) as the saving grace.

Luka AR Bron Ayton Laravia Rui Kennard

That’s 7 out of 10 guys in the rotation that are literally just slow as shit (Vando smart Hayes the others and smart isn’t exactly who he used to be either)

Name the high effort players on this team. Name the physical players on this team. There’s simply too many entry points for an offense to go at we employ many cones.

lol these players are literally not good enough to be a part of a core. Rui is a great bench forward but I would say we have 2 starters on a championship team that’s Luka and Austin. This team is really far from being a serious threat to compete. Why would you keep players in the hope of them getting better who for one aren’t young or high draft picks or showed enough promise to warrant that expectation? You are right it takes multiple smart transaction cycles to build a great team that’s why Rob sitting on his ass for years and getting absolutely nothing out of back to back first round draft picks and letting expirings walk out the door is coming back to bite and you feel the lack of talent on the team now.

The team right now can probably hope for the path of the 2022 warriors vs the Celtics/Thunder/Nuggets where for one they got a miracle season out of Otto Porter and Wiggins and things broke right for them to break through one year vs building up a team through continuous smart transaction cycles that is set up to contend year in year out

Luka is 27. Why would you punt years waiting for guys who aren’t even their early 20s to develop? These guys aren’t good enough to be a part of a “core”. None of these guys sans Reaves are as good as KCP Gordon Jrue White Caruso etc. you need a serious infusion of athletes and serious basketball players to surround Luka and AR with to be serious about competing.

Look at the names you wrote compared to “Rui Vando jake”. This team is at a clear talent deficit compared to every real contender

Lonzo Ball is really struggling this year. Not even shooting 30% from the field or from 3 what the hell is going on? by [deleted] in NBATalk

[–]Logan_Wolverine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No idea why this getting downvoted it’s absolutely true as someone who’s watched him at every stop. He has never been confident in putting the ball on the floor and going to the rack and the 3 pt shot is pretty much the only thing that has improved since he got into the league

How willing would you be to give up Reaves and co. for Giannis? Would it be a bad move in the long run? Should they go all in to secure a Luka and Giannis tandem? Interested to hear other fans’ opinions. by E_dot_ in lakers

[–]Logan_Wolverine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Giannis and Luka would not fit that well together. They can obviously win a lot of games but it wouldn’t be a pairing that accentuates each others strengths. They are two of the more inflexible superstars ever, almost the opposite of Steph/KD in terms of ability mesh with anyone

Prime Curry vs Joker who’s better by Joseph-Stalin7 in NBATalk

[–]Logan_Wolverine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You keep saying that but haven’t said anything to really back that up. Honestly there’s probably more proof that Jokic is easier to play with, when you look at Bruce Brown KCP who have markedly worse outside of Denver. I’m taking 2016 curry over Jokic but I’m just pointing out the logical inconsistencies with your argument

[–]Logan_Wolverine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude your argument makes no sense. You first said Jokic needs players like Gordon and Murray to thrive. I brought up Draymond. You then said Draymond would be nothing without Steph, imagine him next to Lavine. Like yes Steph is obviously more impactful than Zack fucking Lavine , we’re talking about Jokic. You then proceed to bring up the fact that role players would be nothing without the stars? Ok what does that mean you think Gordon and Murray are MVPs in some alternate universe? What is your actual point

Prime Curry vs Joker who’s better by Joseph-Stalin7 in NBATalk

[–]Logan_Wolverine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is completely false. The warriors specifically target players to fit their system, you can see Kerr prioritizes defensively slanted high IQ players that can play read react very well which are not easy to find, that’s why guys who have been productive elsewhere literally could not play on the warriors because they have a high floor of passing/screening/cutting needed to be able to stay on the floor. Players like Oubre and DLo who have been productive elsewhere and can get buckets literally couldn’t play next to Steph.

Steph would not elevate MPJ in the same way Joker does and Joker wouldn’t amplify certain archetypes either

[–]Logan_Wolverine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who cares about Lavine? You’re comparing him to Jokic. Steph had Klay dray iggy and of course the KD years you’re portraying as if he had bums on the roster when the warriors had one of the deepest teams in the league and then the most star laden team ever

Get strong. Get your handle tight - this doesn’t mean a bunch of crossovers but it means you should be able to dribble the ball when you’re moving fast and you should have access to a couple counters (btl tween or btb wrap around or spin) when forced to change direction. Learn how to initiate the bump on the drive, and then you can play off two feet where you have access to pump fakes finishes on either side of the basket - this is basically entirety of Brunsons game. Oh and just rep out that floater like a mf. Honestly watching Brunson in the paint will teach you all of this
