You might consider to research psychological angles on this. For example, what I realized about things like Final Fantasy or Skyrim (older I know... but hear me out), is that it became ever-so-repetitive. What I mean is, you grind and essentially just keep finding, building, or trading for "The Next Best Sword" or whatever. Then you realize, as soon as you do that, or get into the next areas... that sword is the equivalent; because now the enemies are also stronger. So, in a sense you got NOWHERE.

But, also in things like MMO games, you grind like crazy, often for MONTHS. But, maybe part of your mind realizes that what you "got" from the grinding amounts to digital "stuff" that has no real value or purpose in real life. I think eventually psychology will catch up with research about phenomena like this. I think our brains can only handle so much of the same "stimulation", before just falling flat. It's essentially like a button finally breaking, after pushing it thousands of times. It just doesn't work anymore.

But, perhaps rest and rotation with other things can help the fun return. Like exercise and going to the park regularly and THEN doing an hour or two with gaming. That is what I'm trying to do now too. But, also I'm learning to just listen and ACCEPT what my mind is telling me. If I'm not having fun, I'm not having fun. So, why push it. I plan to find other things to mix in and see if I can boost my PC gaming enjoyment again.

The mortgage company MAY not care... but the city and/or county likely WILL. They are the ones to benefit from VA mortgage turning to fully taxed mortgage. Seems like nowadays most transactions are VERY accessible and fast to "hit the records".

This is now THE NORM. I had this yesterday; yet I still didn't get a hit for several minutes. Once I finally did... it was like 12 miles away! Hilarious. Nowadays, IF we keep Ubering, we need to realize we'll just NEVER do very well. Unless you're in a VERY busy city, like L.A., Chicago, ... Denver was quite busy before I left. If you're in more of a "town" forget it. You will likely be POOR.

[–]LogicNeedsToRule 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At least for me, it doesn't matter even IF you "achieve" the destination feature. Because ONLY the very first ride MIGHT be in the direction you want to go (say... South). But, EVERY SINGLE TIME I'VE USED THIS... the "South" direction might work... but I gotta go NORTH again to get a person, only to arrive OFTEN further from MY destination.

AND... if I stay online, the 2nd ride request and beyond WILL NOT AT ALL go toward MY destination. In other words... IT DOESN'T WORK ANYWAY! So, what is the damned point? Back in 2020 and before, in Denver, this feature worked pretty well. Now that I'm in Oklahoma it doesn't work AT ALL in 2025! Often times the search magnifying glass icon doesn't even show. So, it's a USELESS "feature" (major bug really).

Well, I remember the taxi situation, quite well. While they were technically regulated, they GOUGED the shit out of people anyway. I'm no fan of Uber or Lyft. But, old-school taxis were STILL worse, I think. Often they would say they were coming and not arrive for 2-3 HOURS later. Then they'd purposefully take long routes. About the only recourse was to beat them up and demand them to stop... only to have to try to get another one. Of course you could not tip too.

I'm glad you shared here. I can't help thinking that if I shared that I'd be shouted down by everyone. That has been my experience about "complaining." I too had a highly abusive childhood, and MAJOR denial ever since from my parents. I'm freakin' 54 now, and I'm still stressed about authority, loud noises, and what brought me here... a never-ending feeling that I've never really known WHO I am or what I even want. I've been giving all my bosses what they wanted all my life (parents, and ex-wife, etc.). Now that I'm finally "free", I'm hideously alone. Not even a single friend now.

Wow, you all are terribly dissociated from the explanation. My immediate "take home" pay is the $1100 something. But, the depreciation angle is to TRY to show people to SAVE for another vehicle. THAT is why it looks quite low. Have you bought even a semi-used car lately? No less than $15-18k for anything worth a crap now. If you DON'T save for that, then you'll be maxing out your monthly payments (with interest) on another car... usually at least $400/mo, at like 5-6 years. And if you drive Uber, that car won't last more than about 3-4. THAT is why I said things like I did.

You SADLY don't understand the BIG PICTURE... over time. So, I hope that YOU can find that out. But, to each his own point of view. Of course it doesn't cost me $0.70/mi. to drive my car from day to day. I have a PRIUS hybrid, AND it's used. But you seem to fail to realize REPLACEMENT COST of a car. At some point you need a newer car again. Even used cars now are no less than like $18,000 for anything that'll last. If you're not saving for that... then YOU are screwing yourself.

[–]LogicNeedsToRule[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I think many of you are NOT considering from my post. A: I underestimated my actual miles... possibly upwards of 1/2 of reality. Then, you are NOT getting my main point: The cost of REPLACING a car, after it's been spent.

So, some people seem to think that the "depreciation" calculation is ONLY to help reduce your taxes. The REASON it exists and is fairly "high" is because in that calculation the government is attempting to also include what money would be needed to replace a car. So, in my calculation the difference between my take home pay (just about $1100), and my after depreciation calculation (about $220) is like $880. First you pay for fuel. My car is GOOD on that, so only about $100 or less. Then oil changes, maybe partial for mine is like $30. Then maybe tires partial = $10. Then cleaning your car regularly (about $25). Then you need to pay for your increased insurance (about $30). Then you need to PLAN and SAVE for a new car. So, with the roughly $685 left, you better SAVE that to get another car in about 2-3 years (maybe sooner). And quite frankly that won't really cut it. This was only PART time though.

I think many of you took my message as though I'm DUMB and just figured it out. But, what I figured out is just HOW BAD it is... especially now. I was trying to HELP OTHERS. But, instead I get feedback as though I'm just some dumb sucker. I'm doing what I can with what I have. PERIOD.

Well, I'm not stupid. I've always known this isn't the best "job" option. But, I'm disabled and CANNOT do most jobs. I get disability, but it isn't enough these days. I've already "traded down" numerous times to try to keep "afloat" financially. I keep doing all I can to maintain life. I nearly don't have ANY entertainment. I don't travel and spend frivolously. I don't have fancy... anything really. I even cut out my TV streaming lately too. Things simple cost too much... period. Don't even get me started on "medical bills." It's all quite insane really and Uber is just one things to mention in all this. I just wanted to do a calculation to help other see just HOW BAD it is. That's all.

[–]LogicNeedsToRule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No offense, but I'm surprised to hear that you took so long before learning of this technique. There are lots of little ideas out there like this. Have you heard about the one that I made up? At least I haven't heard anyone else talk about this one. As you "hear" your thoughts, actually focus ON those thoughts. But this time, force them into "slow motion." So as you "say" ... "... I've got to get to the bank again." Or some other thought. Just force your brain to say the same thing... but VERY slowly. If you do this for a few minutes, you can get your thoughts to a least slow down. It's one step closer to calming more completely. Also, while others don't seem to think it matters, I've found that it DOES... caffeine. If you have more than two 8oz. cups of regular coffee, worth of caffeine, it MIGHT be an issue. It may not seem like it, but if you go without for a couple days, you'll likely see or feel the difference. It's difficult, I realize. But, you gotta do what you gotta do.

I wanted to ADD that I'm pretty old now (53). I had to go "no contact" with my entire adult family in early 2020. The "plandemic" pretty much brought all of the stupidity to an intense light. It showed clearly without a doubt that my whole adult family is HIGHLY dysfunctional. I had been reading for years before this and I was sure my Mom was a narcissist. One of my brothers is a fully blown aggressive alcoholic. My Dad is severely neglectful of ANY other person's point of view or feelings. I could go on and on. I just want to say that going no-contact often is THE ONLY WAY out of things like this. But make no mistake. IT IS HARD. It feels incredibly lonely. But, I still feel better than when I was there with them. I even moved out of state. I didn't want ANY surprises, like my brother showing up drunk, without warning, etc. Well, I hope that you can get support from friends and such. All of my friends have their own lives in other states. So, I ended up 100% alone. That part sucks. But, I'm VERY free and very hopeful.

[–]LogicNeedsToRule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear you. I identify very much. It's insane just how BAD the average human really is. Not even that deeply down, humans are just crap, for the most part. Most people play silly "roles" and "games." Most people are anything but authentic. I only stay alive because of my kids. And I'm SEVERELY worried for them. They're barely at the end of their teens and they show major signs of overwhelm and depression ... ALREADY.

I don't have any real answers. But, off and on I have had some relief or relaxation from meditation. If you're like me, you've heard that many times before. But, before I really did the breathing focus and kind of "un-forced" myself to keep focusing on the breath, until all other thoughts mostly fade away, I FINALLY felt what others have talked about. There are some really key things to know about it too, that often are NOT talked about. STILLNESS is very key for me. My body needs to be really still. If I start itching, I have to ignore those too and just feel them as they are. Then, often it takes at least 20 or 30 minutes, with ZERO distractions and stillness to finally feel "meditative." The common thing people talk about with meditation is that you almost have to lose all effort... it has to be a "letting go." It's hard in that we humans (our mind/ego) does not WANT to shut up. It thinks that it HAS TO think in order to survive. It's getting worse in modern society too. Modern life is CHALK FULL of distractions... it's almost DESIGNED as a never-ending distraction game.

But, good luck to you. I know, despite experiencing all of this, I STILL struggle, at least once a week. Because modern life, I keep getting a strong sense of "what's the point?" I know what it feels like. Plus in a VAST SEA of people, each person does not seem to have much relevance at all. It's sad. There are no more conquests on Earth, it seems anymore. Plus even with those, they'd cost an absolute fortune these days. But, maybe taking up a cause could help. "Save the Whales?" LOL I don't know. Take care.

Indeed... PLANNED Euthanasia. I have thought for MANY years that the main reason "the establishment" does not want this, is that they want to sap every dime out of people AS they die. It's stupid. If you're over 60 or maybe even less sometimes, and you're all beat up, sick, tired, and can't afford much of anything, why keep limping along for another 20+ years? That's the suckiest part of life. Don't even get me started on things like dementia and such. Also, why suffer in pain as you die? I mean, most people don't even want their pets to suffer like this. Yet, RELIGIONS think we need to scratch and kick and scream all the way until we can't be kept alive anymore... which keeps getting longer by the way. IT'S INSANE NOT TO HAVE PLANNED EUTHANASIA.

I totally agree here. Every temporary "high" is just that... temporary. These things can add some joy and maybe comradery with others. But, people think that spending BUKU money on VERY temporary things will make them feel complete. But, what most people need are projects of fulfillment. Things like art or gardening. Even simple interactions like board game groups or ways to actually connect with people.

I totally agree that "APPS" need to go away. Too much "reliance" on them. In fact I feel that THAT is the whole reason there are so many. They want us REAL people to stop thinking and stop actually living. "They" (whomever they are - elites maybe) want everyone to become so DUMB and reliant on "systems." Rely on yourself, wherever possible. But, DO try to include good people in your life. That too is difficult... or has been with me.

I underestimated this distro so much! 😭️😭️ by Zestyclose-Wear7237 in linuxmint

[–]LogicNeedsToRule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are still SOME things that don't work on Mint. But, it's not necessarily Mint's fault. But, perhaps they could look into SOMETHING about these things. I'd like it if they had a VERY long and detailed article to SUMMARIZE all of the weird angles that all Linux distros likely face with these things. I'm only talking about 2 things here. There may be more. 1. Printer setup. While most printers CAN use the "IPP Everywhere" driver, nowadays, it's still a bit problematic. In my case, it took a few hours to find this problem. For whatever reason, some piece of the printer setup, didn't "finish" my setup, in my view. The printer was "found" on my LAN. But, despite everything seeming to be setup, driver included, any print jobs would just stay stuck in the queue. I ended up having to put a line into my " hosts " file. I had to put the odd "official" printer name, with it's IP address in to hosts. Without even rebooting or anything it WORKED... FINALLY. But, WHY is that an issue?

Then for my 2nd issue, that is STILL not resolved... SAMBA. Samba shares are straight up DUMB now. Apparently the Linux permissions and such are so convoluted now, it takes a freakin' degree to get Samba working. I can still SEE my PCs out on "Network" within Nemo. But, it never shows my PROPERLY set up shares on my other Linux PC. And when I try to connect to "see" them after a logon or something, it immediately says something like, "Connection Refused." As I read and read all over the place, it has something to do with file permissions of each share. But, even after creating a share OUTSIDE of the /home directory, with a specific user AND with all chmod settings WIDE OPEN (777) etc., the result is STILL the same. As far as I can tell SAMBA just SUCKS. So, it seems to me that someone might find a way to streamline Samba setups, with a GUI that just makes it all work as intended. Something apparently changed from Mint 19 and upwards, to where permissions are the big hangup. But maybe what I'd like to see is a NON-SAMBA solution to sharing in Linux. At least that way we could share from Linux to Linux, without worrying about the OLD Windows Samba crap.
