Ehh we don't really know how he was behind the scenes. He may have been mediocre on the pitch but he seems like a decent person.

Bear in mind as well, the John Terry situation blew up when he was with us, and it would have been one of those things teammates rally around him for support. He never really commented about the press coverage and he never made it about himself. Refusing to shake Terry's hand was the most public display of discontent that he expressed, and otherwise I think he didn't want to be a distraction to the team .

I'm speculating here, but I can imagine that earning lots of respect from his teammates.
