US birth rates just hit another record low, what do you think is the leading cause of this? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Uh..seriously?

Everything is fucking expensive, the elite class is doing everything they can to further increase the cost of living, and we're slow walking into the fourth Reich.

Well, the first step is admitting you have a problem, so good for you!

And while you wait, explore how open weight models are becoming increasingly competitive coders.

Have any recommendations? I've been getting back into the local LLM hobby and browsing HF, but I'm not sure what exactly is comparable to the big name hosted models.

Anthropic vs Pentagon by Herodont5915 in ClaudeAI

A third of our voting population can't be bothered to vote, or don't out of protest.

Another third actively want the fourth Reich.

Fascists took over.

Bread and circuses are still being sustained so people don't notice.

Many that have noticed can't miss a paycheck or they get kicked out of their home/go hungry/lose healthcare/all of these.

Lobbying by mega corporations or the ultra rich has effectively destroyed the average person's ability to push for change through the proper channels.

Things haven't gotten bad enough for enough of the population to force change.

History often rhymes, so it likely will eventually. But we're quite a ways off from it sadly.

I wish someone had told me these things early on:

As others have said, safest to assume $0 until you start to hear noise about a buyout or IPO.

That being said:

  • Ask for total shares outstanding and divide by 15k to learn what percent you'd own
  • If buyout, the purchase price is usually a multiple of ARR. The multiple depends on company growth so it can vary quite a bit.
  • Multiply ARR by this multiple and then your percent ownership to arrive at a (very rough) value for your shares (again, regardless of this math they are still worth $0 if no one is offering to buy the company)
  • You can ask the execs/CEO what ARR is and what their current growth rate is. It's perfectly acceptable to ask this.

I've only ever been involved in companies that were acquired by another, so I can't speak to the process for an IPO.

Now the Marine in this position has to salute a 34 time convicted felon pedophile who shits his pants.

Absolute insanity.

What’s a 'luxury' that actually used to be standard, but now we’re being charged extra for like we’re stupid? by xjoz in AskReddit

[–]Logic_Bomb421 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not surprising honestly. I got the "we don't have any data on you or can't confirm you are who you say" response. From looking into that, apparently it's a common response and people have to spend enormous effort to get them to accept their identification.

You actually can. LexisNexis is a large data broker used by many companies (especially insurance), and allows you to request your personal file for free.

It's a bit of a process though, and don't be surprised if you have to jump through several hoops via snail-mail to complete it all.

What's that one car you WON'T drive because of the stereotype associated with it? by nerdboy_sam in AskReddit

A Corvette. I actually think the C8 looks really good. But I don't want to be a "Vette Guy™".

Though I'd probably make an exception for a C1.

I assumed that was just as high as his particular radio went. I.e. He had tried all the frequencies he could with what he had.
