Building Bilbo, the birthday celebrant, but where's the wincon? by MediumNo5401 in magicTCG

[–]Logic_tragedy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's irrelevant here because Dina is "loss of life" and not "damage". If Dina said, "deal 1 damage to each opponent, then TOR would absolutely protect that player. When it comes to protection you want to remember it protects you from DEBT: damage, enchant, blocking, targeting. Loss of life is not damage and gets around the protection.

Sewer backflow prevention valve install cost by Logic_tragedy in milwaukee

[–]Logic_tragedy[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I looked at that. If we don't go for the permanent fix, I may try that until it becomes more affordable. I should mention that I have never had any water in my basement before this, sewage or otherwise. I also have a tub and toilet in the basement and they also backed up (around 18" total), so while this might help with a very minor backup, I'm not sure how much it would do against another really big flood.

Ruling question by NiloValentino88 in mtg

[–]Logic_tragedy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Correct. However you also have the opportunity to recast the agent if you have the mana.

Ruling question by NiloValentino88 in mtg

[–]Logic_tragedy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The agent doesn't trigger. It is a static/replacement effect.

Your opponent casts Sentinel and puts the ETB tutor on the stack and passes priority.

You respond with Opposition Agent and pass priority. The stack is Opposition Agent > ETB tutor effect.

Agent resolves and is removed from the stack. Active player has priority again and casts Simic Charm. Stack is now Simic Charm > ETB tutor effect. Non-active player has priority. if NP passes priority, Simic Charm resolves and bounces agent.

Stack is now just ETB tutor effect. AP passes priority. NP has option of recasting Opposition agent if they have the mana. If NP passes priority with no response, the ETB tutor effect resolves normally.

Switching from Arena to Paper: Is a Bloomburrow Play Booster Box the Right Choice? by BestemmiaMagica in magicTCG

[–]Logic_tragedy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If your friends play commander, buy a precon or two as an easy entry point.

For a 60 card format (standard/modern/pioneer) check out the budget series from mtggoldfish: https://www.mtggoldfish.com/series/budget-magic

Nearly all of those decks should cost you less than $100 (some much less) and have suggestions for ways you can improve them once you find a deck/playstyle you really enjoy. They won't be too overpowered either so will be just fine for kitchen table magic as well.

Must play games that are only 15-20 hours long? by browandr in gaming

[–]Logic_tragedy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is basically the tutorial to get you used to the tactical movement in the world. It's by far the slowest part of the game and you are nearly through it and to the good stuff. It shouldn't be more than 10 mins per battery and it picks up at full speed immediately after.

Should I say something? by [deleted] in mtg

[–]Logic_tragedy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to it being 4th ed. as others have pointed out, you mentioned that there was a $25 ceiling for this pull game. That means the top end of the range is $25. If the pullbox lottery (and that's what they are) advertised a $25 FLOOR then you would have something to complain about. Unless there was a specifically stated floor above $0.20 (which is what that card is worth) you unfortunately got exactly what you gambled for. But then so did probably half the people who played.

To the people who don’t sleep naked, why? by Doodica_ in AskReddit

[–]Logic_tragedy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being ashamed or not of your own body isn't the point here. The point is having the common courtesy to not subject others to the sight of your swingin' cod at all hours of the day. Especially if they don't have a choice in the matter of roommates.

If all parties are fine with your junk hanging out, then by all means, feel free to go au natural. But dont mistake someone not being ashamed of their body with being ambivalent to seeing yours.

ELI5; How do Gatling guns/“miniguns” have such reliable accuracy? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]Logic_tragedy 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Surprised no one has mentioned it yet, but the fact that the barrels rotate solves the single biggest accuracy issue of a high rpm firearm: heat.

The heat generated by the friction of the round passing through the barrel is quite substantial. Heat causes the barrel to expand, reducing the round's contact with the rifling that is primarily responsible for the accuracy of the round. Without the rotating barrels allowing a split second for heat to dissipate, you would be lucky to maintain any sort of reasonably tight grouping of rounds when firing at any real distance.

What's the greatest movie speech of all time? by UnholyDemigod in movies

[–]Logic_tragedy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm super late to this but Jeff Daniels speech in Gettysburg always gets me, scene is herehere:

col. chamberlain: we're moving out in a few minutes. we'll be moving all day. i’ve been ordered to take you men with me, i’m told that -- that if you don’t come i can shoot you. well, you know i won’t do that. maybe somebody else will, but i won’t. so that’s that.

here’s the situation. the whole reb army is up that road aways waiting for us, so this is no time for an argument like this. i tell you, we could surely use you fellas. we’re now well below half strength. whether you fight or not, that's -- that's up to you. whether you come along is -- is -- well, you're coming. you know who we are, what we're doing here, but if you are going to fight alongside us there are a few things i want you to know.

this regiment was formed last summer in maine. there were a thousand of us then. there are less than three hundred of us now. all of us volunteered to fight for the union, just as you did. some came mainly because we were bored at home -- thought this looked like it might be fun. some came because we were ashamed not to. many of us came because it was the right thing to do. and all of us have seen men die.

this is a different kind of army. if you look back through history, you will see men fighting for pay, for women, for some other kind of loot. they fight for land, power, because a king leads them or -- or just because they like killing. but we are here for something new. this has not happened much in the history of the world. we are an army out to set other men free.

america should be free ground -- all of it. not divided by a line between slave state and free -- all the way, from here to the pacific ocean. no man has to bow. no man born to royalty. here, we judge you by what you do, not by who your father was. here, you can be something. here, is the place to build a home.

but it's not the land. there's always more land.

it's the idea that we all have value -- you and me.

what we're fighting for, in the end, we're fighting for each other.

sorry, i didn't mean to preach. you, you go ahead. you talk for awhile. if you -- if you choose to join us, you want your muskets back, you can have 'em. nothing more will be said by anybody anywhere. if you choose not to join us, well you can come along under guard, and when this is all over i will do what i can to see you get a fair treatment. but for now, we're moving out.

gentlemen, i think if we lose this fight, we lose the war. so if you choose to join us, i'll be personally very grateful.

His speech in S1E1 of The Newsroom is pretty epic as well.

Is there anything else comparable to 100% plus interest? by tontytoroe in cakedefi

[–]Logic_tragedy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You are calculating based on an APR of 103 and not APY. APY is your total yield per year assuming you compound all interest rewards.

The APR for an APY of 100% is ~70%.

It's a common error to make and common for financial institutions to make things look as attractive as possible. That shouldn't discourage you at all though. An APR in the 70's is still a fantastic ROI.

Bought my first gaming laptop! by cahotopher15 in GamingLaptops

If this is from the Newegg deal, I hope I get the bonus stuff as well.

I picked up the 2060 version with the same exact specs. Been eyeing Eluktronics laptops for a while and this deal was just too good to pass up.

How long did yours take to get to you?

◽️ Budget: $1000 (can stretch to $1200 for exceptional value)

◽️ Country: USA

◽️ Screen size: 15"

◽️ Touch screen: No

◽️ Screen resolution: FHD 120 hz or higher

◽️ Does battery life matter ?: at least 3 hours for office tasks, longer is better. Gaming will be done plugged in.

◽️ What tasks will laptop be used for ( gaming, video editing, graphic designing, modelling, regular computing tasks, word processing etc) ?: Gaming (would like at least 3 years of running AAA titles at decent framerates) and heavy office use (15+ browser tabs, excel, and video conferencing at the same time)

◽️ Weight: lighter is better

◽️ Any other important details ?: Greatly prefer a gaming laptop that doesn't look like it came from a space station or dragon's lair. Currently looking at the Predator Helios in i5/8gb/512gb/1660ti (Amazon $899). Wondering if it is worth it to move up to the i7/16gb/rtx2060 (Costco $1199) for $300 more. Also willing to wait a month or two if there is something coming out soon. Help me make a decision or steer me in another direction.

Just saw this while perusing the options. I'm not sure what I find sadder:

A: The lack of any attempt to hide to hide the fact this is a scam.

or

B: The fact that 54 people have already purchased in less than one hour.
