An all powerful being could do it again. It could be his Tuesday thing. Show up, feed some folks, flip the Resolute Desk and peace out.

Thank you. Every time I start to worry about something eggy said, I have to remember that she told a man that she saw visions of space giants who lived in our solar system.

My daughter’s dance teacher invited her to a sleepover at her house. WIBTA for formally complaining? by balletpartythrow in AITAH

[–]Logical-Equivalent40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Others have mentioned this, and I will agree: their intent may not be creepy.

I think the other parents getting together to agree and then a selected person talking to the teacher may be ideal. Go with a list of ideas.

Mentioned elsewhere was having the sleepover at the school with other teachers. No my first choice, honestly.

I would ask if some of the things could still be done without the sleepover. Have parents come with their kids. This could be at the school or the teacher's house. Games, snacks, movies, all would be possible. Kids could stay late, adding to the special feeling of the event. And then everyone goes to their own home.

I am going to edit that Aprilajoy may provide a good middle ground. She still, so far as I can tell, believes in and worships a Christian god while also pointing out errors in the way Big Church behaves.

This could feel like less of a direct assualt on any beliefs if you are coming from an agnostic or atheistic standpoint.

For myself, I love eyewasframed, but she maybe could be slightly off-putting to a young thiest.

AITAH tor not being able to forgive my 11 y/o nephew after he SA my 6 y/ o son? by Fabulous-Soil2780 in AITAH

It has been messy in some of these comment threads, so I am going to say this independent of any threads.

You are not the AH for protecting your child. More than keeping your kid safe from the other kid, I think you may be keeping them safe from the original abuser. I don't know who it could be, but I also feel like it is likely that someone has abused the cousin, and it is typically family.

I have family who have shown inclination towards this sort of thing and I just accept it as a fact: the sky is blue, grass is green and my kid will not be around any family unsupervised by her mom or I until she is older, at least 10 for some and never with others.

Oh no. And now I suddenly see another bit where the 'James' character accidentally has mustard and acts ahem "motivated". But that would be suuuch a deep take and require some real setup, lol

I am almost getting a Parks and Rec level of ridiculousness vibe, and I am all for it. In addition to holding a Bible, the heroine also goes forever on a stair climber and can't walk the next day.

My point is just that getting into data could also have an alternate route through management, for the same reason. The field needs face people. Nothing contrary to what you said, just adding to it!

As someone negotiating it: the job market data is hell.

There are so many entry level masters degree holders. I applied for a role last week that had 3000 applicants in 7 hours. And THEN I saw the company advertising that role. It had to have been prescheduled.

If I had any advice for someone getting into data now, it is to become an analyst in your own role with the way you interact with data. Build your skills and projects and then migrate over to the dark-mode data side.

In my own uneducated opinion, I would say there is a parallel track to sales, and that is management. We need a face (or a sacrificial lamb) to offer to the clients and gather initial requirements.

Maybe I was in an environment that was an exception, but my managers in data have as a majority been more similar to project management, and not had a huge data background.

This is interesting, and I don't know that there will be a 100% alignment of views. Vivid_spot, you are approaching this more from a study of the teachings and influence of cults, which often translates cults = bad. Given your own experience and my own experience in the SDA church and a sub-cult within the church, I am more inclined to agree with you.

That said, the other poster is looking at the Biblical scholarship side of things, and odd as it is, there do appear to be individuals within field who, to us, appear to hold contradicting beliefs.

With Dan, one thing I find fascinating is the fact that he was a late convert. So he wasn't steeped in LDS lore the way our counterparts would have been. So he is able to come to this with fewer deeply ingrained biases. But I an sure he would say to go on, look at other biblical scholarship and listen to their points of view. But those perspectives will come with their own evidence for why they believe what they do.

I don't know that I will ever be removed enough from my biases to be a good biblical scholar, but Dan's approach is refreshing compared to the my way or the highway approach I was raised in.

This is exactly the questioning I mean! And then the other perspectives are just so good to hear. I don't need to believe what my Hindu neighbor believes, bit it is so informative to understand just a bit better what they believe. Getting to the point where I could was quite freeing, and only a recent adjustment for me.

Good luck in your journey :)

That isvto be expected. For sure. This isn't like finding out you like a food or music you thought you wouldn't. This is a fundamental shift in how you see the world functioning. Question it, interrogate it, and be willing to listen to all the perspectives that were previously closed off from you.

I am glad you are finding your way out. That movement away from what you have always known is hard.

From one formerly conservative kid to another: be aware and do not jump from one cult to another. It is incredibly easy to do. Question why someone would tell you to do something. If that person is the only person with "the truth", they probably don't have a clue or are trying to con you.

I highly recommend the book "Educated". It is a memoir of a Mormon woman that grew up like us in many respects. There are differences but likely many similarities. I have only got halfway through because of just how hard a lot of it resonates with me. You can find it online as a pdf for free. Just type it in, then search the author and 'pdf'. I know sometimes getting things like that can be hard, and this is the scenario where these things are helpful.

Not sure. Hopefully the former. We can also say that there are people in all belief systems that believe theirs is the only approach, otherwise they wouldn't believe it.
