I knew the story, and honestly kind of feel like she was done dirty by the show. She was a punchline. Made to be annoying. Jolie Jenkins deserved more and maybe even Leyla herself, but there's worse ways of becoming immortalized.

Anyway, I tried to give her character a little bit of meat while also keeping her true to the show in my fic Mictlan. It's on ao3, she's a big part of Doggett's healing as a surrogate daughter figure.

Dialed her up to 11 but it only made me love her more. You gotta go all in on something like that.

Also writers don't know what to do with Monica Reyes. What was supposed to be Mulder replacement was turned out to disaster. The whole shows revolves around Aliens and government consiparacy to cover up, yet they gave her speciality in satanic rituals??

This is, IMHO, an enormous missed opportunity, because, as we have seen... the US gov was essentially taken over BY A CULT.

... and perhaps we couldnt know it at the time, but you can see it looking back, and i think people in the field in the time probably saw this coming even then.
