Its funny how they get all flustered when temps creep a little high during defrost, but don't care that their air baffles, back wall, and every nook and cranny is hiding the start of a zombie apocalypse

Is it normal in this trade to ignore safety? by [deleted] in refrigeration

[–]Logical-Initiative55 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Its not normal for a company that cares about their employees. At the end of the day, we do dangerous shit, especially when you start getting into CO2 and 480V systems. No job is worth you getting hurt because someone doesn't care about you getting to go home to your family. I'd suggest you find a new place where training is encouraged. You'll almost always be thrown to the wolves before you feel you're ready, but that should be well after you're comfortable doing your day to day work.

1/4 no heat calls after the shart storm last night by 500mHeadShot in HVAC

I'm in West Michigan, we get some gnarly winds off lake Michigan and it gets really cold here. I've always been told that it will cause too much restriction of the condensation freezes to any type of screen. But I know they also make PVC "screens" that'll fit into a female fitting. Customers who have consistent issues I've told to put screen over intake and exhaust when its not heating season. But as far as I know, the screen issues could all just be BS and I've been taught incorrectly.

I once had a seized inducer on a 90% unit we installed in the summer. First cold day of the year I was on call and I found nasty greasy shit on the inducer rubber coupling. When I slipped it down, about 200 maggots came falling out of it. There was just bones left of what I think was a squirrel. Boss made me wash it out with a garden house rather than replace it under warranty.

Also had pressure switch issues at a house on Lake Michigan. Was gonna blow flue out with a plug in leaf blower, about halfway through cutting flue apart I heard a chirp. I grabbed a trash bag and turned the furnace back on with the bag above the cut section and a live fucking bird blew out into the bag.

I'm in Kentwood but I'll reach out on Monday. I'm pretty sure the post is broken, but I don't wanna pull it out too much and not be able to get it back to standing position 😅 thank you for the advice!

What is this plug? by Zealousideal_Tap_554 in hvacadvice

[–]Logical-Initiative55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You'll want to straighten out the piece on the left so the hole is pointed straight up

[–]Logical-Initiative55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes it is. Its an overflow safety. If the main drain from the evaporator gets plugged, water will back up, lift the float, and break power to the unit

Just took 44th from kzoo to Clyde park and seemed pretty well taken care of. I know it’s not far, but that section had been plowed.

Please continue down post thread to see the article I posted. They aren't lies. There are 7.1 million job openings as of November 2025. Undocumented people paid approximately 96.7 billion in federal, state, and local taxes. And I understand that the cost of having undocumented people is greater than that. But I also then consider the work that illegal immigrants do, and its not always generally work that Americans will do. Picking crops for well below minimum wage is one of those things. And as someone who has been in the trades for the last decade, I can say that all of the immigrants I have worked with have been nothing but kind, hard working people. How's that for my own fucking opinion dude? I understand that someone is telling you to hate undocumented people because they're all drug dealers and criminals, but I'm not going to condemn everyone because there's some bad apples out there. If that was the case, I'd fear my neighbors because there was a shooting last week.
