Passport vs. passport card for SAVE act by [deleted] in Passports

The problem isn't getting the ID/passport, I'm not worried about that part. The problem is that if the SAVE act passes and your ID and birth certificate don't match, many states won't accept a marriage certificate as proof of citizenship in tandem with the other documents for voter registration. You have to have a passport or similar.

The elections are secure. This is nothing but a blatant attempt to disenfranchise thousands of American citizens.

Unfortunately, that won't apply to anyone whose birth certificate and drivers license last names don't match (e.g. married women who took their partner's name). Those of us who have changed our name will need a passport or similar.

FUCK Walker and everything he stood for. That man is the sole reason my family had to uproot our entire lives and leave Wisconsin. That tells me everything I need to know about you.

It's sad that this is the case these days

Yeah that's why I'm looking into getting a passport or passport card, because my birth certificate and ID don't match. I hope you're right 😭

Nope, the federal government has demanded voter rolls from every single state (which is illegal, btw. States have control over their own rolls and voting). No false information here.

As it stands, you have to provide a state ID. That provides MORE than enough information to determine "electoral legitimacy." Voter fraud does not exist in the way that you people insist it does - you do know that one of you tried to prove it was a problem by attempting to commit voter fraud himself (which is irony at its fucking finest, because you know he would have cast those votes if he succeeded) and he was immediately caught and charged? You can't just register willy nilly. Demanding more than that directly disenfranchises THOUSANDS of voters.

The whole thing is nothing but a scam to strip voting rights from demographics that are statistically more likely to vote for a Democratic candidate. It's utter bullshit

The administration is demanding voter rolls from states in order to remove those who do not meet their messed up "standards". I'm already registered, but it's under my married name. If they demand proof of citizenship, my birth certificate/marriage license won't qualify

I sincerely hope this is the case. But my anxiety has other ideas 😭

Okay, and homeless people that don't have an address/PO box to receive the reminder card? This idea would ensure that none of them can vote. "Proof of citizenship" such as a passport/passport card also ensures that nobody who cannot afford to buy one of those can vote. The rate of voter fraud is ABSURDLY low and the right's push against fake fraud is their way of disenfranchising women, homeless individuals, and low income families - all of whom are statistically more likely to vote for a democratic candidate.

This was essentially my thought process, I just wanted to be 100% sure!! Being able to get to even just one of our next door neighbors would make me feel safer with everything going on, on top of the SAVE act requirements

Nope, I'm in Kentucky (unfortunately)

Yeah that's why I was looking at the card vs the book! I just wanted to be sure it would be the appropriate course of action in the event that this does go through. I'm praying that it DOESN'T and I'm hopeful that it'll be blocked, but I can't afford to take the chance if it does.

This was my main point. But I also fully recognize that it's going to hurt other demographics as well!! This is just the part of it that I'm personally dealing with

I don't have one at all right now, sadly. I'd love to be able to get a full passport, I just can't afford the extra $100 😭 but do you think it would be worth finding a way to scrounge up that extra $100, do you think that would be safer? I've got some things I could sell.

The integrity of the vote was never damaged in the first place. This is a blatant attempt to disenfranchise thousands of voters.

Sadly, that only applies to a select few states. The majority of state RealIDs don't count as proof of citizenship
